He laughed even more maniacally. “In that case, let’s see how long you can keep your position as Mrs. Caldwell!”
“Oriana…” Evelyn hadn’t expected the situation to deteriorate so badly. Even after all those threats, Oriana still refused to yield. Her eyes reddened. “Oriana, do you really hate us that much? Hate our whole family? When you were little, I doted on you, raised you like a princess! I treated you well! You and Owen were so close as children. It’s just a small favor. Must you sacrifice everything for it?”
As she spoke, Evelyn began to sob quietly.
She didn’t want to hear Bramwell say those cruel things to Oriana, and she couldn’t bear to see Oriana be so cold and refuse to help Owen.
She didn’t understand. For Micah, it was just a simple matter, a word. Why did it have to come to this?
Even if she wasn’t their biological daughter, they had been a family for over a decade…
Looking at Evelyn, who simply couldn’t comprehend her stance, Oriana’s lips curled into a cold, faint smile.
“Mrs. Sterling, you did treat me well, it’s true. But sadly, all those past beautiful feelings have been slowly worn away by you, bit by bit!”
Oriana took a deep breath. “Moreover, this is a matter of principle. Even if my relationship with Owen were still as close as in childhood, I still couldn’t do it!”
“You… why are you so stubborn!” Evelyn continued.
“Why waste more breath on her!” Bramwell glared viciously at Oriana, then barked at Evelyn and Owen, “Let’s go! I need to busy myself contacting my journalist friends to properly spread this delightful piece of gossip!”
With that, Bramwell swaggered, deliberately bumping into Oriana’s shoulder as he passed, and headed for the door.
His imposing demeanor was a clear message to Oriana: he intended to burn bridges and would not let this go.
Not a flicker of emotion showed on Oriana’s face; she only slowly clenched her fists.

Chapter 420 An Unwavering Shield
The moment Bramwell pushed the partition door open, before he could step out, he suddenly froze in his tracks.

Evelyn and Owen, already disheartened, looked up in confusion as Bramwell, who had been marching forward, actually retreated back into the room.
Right behind him, a tall, imposing, and icy figure appeared in the doorway. Their eyes widened in shock.
They had just seen this strikingly handsome face at the summit yesterday!
“M–Micah Caldwell!” Bramwell’s heart was seized by a tidal wave of terror. His words stumbled, and he nearly bit his tongue.
Hearing the name, Oriana, who had lowered her head, stiffened. She turned around in disbelief.
In the next second, she ran towards him without hesitation, throwing herself into his embrace.
He caught her steadily, holding her securely in his arms, offering her an irreplaceable sense of safety.
Micah’s palm gently stroked her back. He lowered his gaze slightly, his voice, cold to others, becoming impossibly tender when addressing her. “They bullied you.”
It wasn’t a question, but a statement.
A nameless dread gripped Bramwell. His mind buzzed, his nerves tightening. “Mr. Caldwell! I was just about to look for you!”
He absolutely could not let Oriana speak first. Bramwell struck preemptively.
“Mr. Caldwell, you don’t know this, but Oriana hid many things from you before marrying you! Back in Seabar…”
It was too late for Owen to stop him. “Dad!”
Micah’s lips parted, his airy tone effortlessly cutting off Bramwell’s rushed words.
“Are you going to say that she was in a relationship with Grant in Seabar and supported each other for years? Or that she cared for the crippled Grant day and night after his accident until he recovered? Or perhaps, after being cast out by your Sterling family, she selflessly accompanied the then–unknown Grant for years as he built his business?”
The three Sterlings stared in disbelief, their eyes wide. “You… you knew?”

Bramwell couldn’t believe it. If Micah knew about Oriana’s past with Grant, how could he still marry her? How could he treasure her so?
Surely, there weren’t many men in this world so magnanimous, so willing to accept that their woman had once bowed and scraped for another man, that she was ‘used goods‘ having been with someone else for so long!
Especially a man of Micah’s superior background, reputation, and excellence it was impossible for him to tolerate it!
“I know. Their shared past, I know every detail clearly.”
Bramwell refused to believe it. “Impossible! Hah, Mr. Caldwell, are you just saying that to save face? You surely don’t know the full depth of it. Oriana and Grant weren’t just an ordinary couple. She sacrificed so much for him. How could she just stop loving him? There must still be a place for Grant in her heart! How could any man possibly…?”
