Grant shut his eyes tightly. Just then, Alaric’s phone rang. He quickly answered, listened for a few seconds, and then hung up.
Without opening his eyes, Grant asked, “What now?”
Alaric pursed his lips. “It’s nothing major. Bramwell showed up at the company, demanding that you return the tens of millions he invested after the New Year.”
“Ridiculous.” Grant laughed bitterly. “From before the New Year to after, he begged me to take his money. Now that the situation’s changed, he wants it back? I haven’t even settled the Sterling family’s accounts with him, and now he’s coming to my door?”
“Grant, maybe you should take a break. You’ve been working all night. You’re the pillar of our team; we can’t afford for anything to happen to you.”
Grant exhaled wearily. “Alright, I’ll go back first. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Okay.”
Downstairs, the company was swarmed with reporters. Grant slipped out through a secret exit.
Dragging his exhausted body, he returned to Borian House–the home he and Luna had chosen together after their engagement.
Located in one of Jindiwood’s premier CBD neighborhoods, the luxury apartment came fully furnished and exquisitely decorated—just add furniture and move in.
Face recognition granted him entry. Once inside, Grant collapsed onto the imported sofa, finally able to release the tension that had built over a full day and night.
Hearing the noise from the living room, Luna rushed out of the bedroom. “Grant, you’re finally home.”
She half–sat on the sofa’s edge, looking at the man who had aged so much overnight. Her heart ached as she reached out. “You’ve been working yourself to the bone, haven’t you?”
Smack!
Grant slapped away her hand, his eyes filled with disgust. “Spare me your fake sympathy. If I’m in this mess, it’s all thanks to you!”
“Luna, listen to me. After you have the baby, we’re getting a divorce!”

His sharp voice left no room for negotiation. This was a declaration, not a discussion.
Luna’s look of pity faded, replaced by calm.
Suddenly, she gave a cold, dark laugh. “Divorce? Why would I want to divorce you?

“I paved the way for you without expecting anything in return. I gave you my love and my body. When you profited, you never thought about what troubles you might bring me. You never stopped enjoying everything I gave you while taking advantage of me. And now that things go wrong, you want to wash your hands of me?
“Grant, that’s impossible!”
Luna rose from the sofa. Her tall, sharp eyes were filled with hysterical mockery that echoed sharply through the large living room. “We’re bound for life—till death do us part!”
When he listened to the woman’s haunting curse, Grant’s pupils trembled.
Blood surged to his head. His face tightened with cold fury. Suddenly, he stood up and slammed a vicious slap across Luna’s face, sending her crashing hard to the floor. Half her face swelled rapidly, her lips stained with blood.
Luna was stunned.
Throughout her life, except that one time with Oriana, no one, whether Niall, Rory, Bramwell, Evelyn, or even the students who ostracized and looked down on her at school, had ever struck her so harshly.
Grant’s force was far harder than Oriana’s; he showed no mercy or restraint.
The man she had given everything to, the man her young heart adored, had dealt her the most painful, brutal slap of her life.
Tears welled in Luna’s eyes, a deep crimson. “Grant, you hit me? You actually hit me!”
Grant’s palm tingled, the veins in his hand twitching involuntarily.
He stared coldly at the nearly hysterical woman on the floor, his voice filled with loathing.
“This is the lesson you deserve! Luna, don’t forget it was you who willingly supported me, clearing the path for my business. You said you wanted no reward, only for me to succeed. I never demanded anything from you. Now you regret it and talk about your ‘contributions‘? That’s laughable!”
Grant curled his lips, straightened his rumpled collar, and looked down at her with disdain.

“Don’t think a marriage license can trap me for life. You’re sick–cancer! You won’t live long. I’ll be merciful for the child’s sake and send you to a decent nursing home after your confinement period. As for anything else? Don’t even think about it. You’ve deceived me for years. This is more than I owe you.”
