Chapter 469 The Trust Between Them
Chapter 469 The Trust Between Them
Oriana was taken aback, blurting out instinctively, “You’re not angry?”
Micah’s reply came without a shred of hesitation, resolute and firm. “I trust you.”
A wave of warmth spread through Oriana’s chest, soft and comforting.

Her voice softened. “The photos online are from last night. It was a group dinner with Kai, his entire team, and me. He was being overly attentive, and I only reciprocated once. As for that photo that looks like an embrace… he choked on a peppercorn while eating something too spicy for him. I was performing the Heimlich maneuver.”
Inside the smoothly moving Maybach, the climate control was set to a comfortable warmth. Yet Kieran still felt a piercing chill emanating from the backseat, one his tailored jacket couldn’t quite block.
However, in the span of a single breath, that bone–chilling frost seemed to sweep through and vanish, replaced by the gentle warmth of a spring thaw.
Kieran dared a cautious glance in the rearview mirror. He clearly saw the ice and tension that had gripped Micah’s face for hours–a countenance that had seemed ready to condemn the world–melt away, replaced by a smile as welcoming as a spring breeze.
“Even if you hadn’t explained, I would have trusted you.”
The repeated words now carried a distinctly lighter, almost pleased, tone.
Oriana let out a small, relieved breath.
Still saying you’re not angry?
Micah was possessive to a fault. How could he not care?
He just didn’t dare to bring his turmoil to her, bottling it up to wrestle with alone.
A small smile touched Oriana’s lips. “Even if your trust is unconditional, I still want to explain. Trust goes both ways.”
Micah’s grip on the phone tightened slightly. “Mm.”
Then he continued, “I’ve already tasked people with handling the online comments as quickly as possible. Ignore it.”

“Okay. Of course I don’t care about strangers‘ words. It’s just… Grandpa and the others, if they see it…”
“They trust you too, naturally. I’m also tracing the IP of the source. Give me a little time. I’ll find whoever is slandering you.”
Oriana lowered her lashes. In truth, she had her suspicions about who might be behind it, but…
“Alright. I’ll wait for your update.”
Without concrete evidence, she couldn’t casually accuse anyone.
Oriana checked the time. “I should go. Need to get up, get ready, and assemble.”
“Alright. Talk again at lunch.”
Oriana raised an eyebrow. He was already scheduling their next chat.
“Okay.”
After changing, Oriana squeezed in a moment while brushing her teeth to one–handedly scroll through the flood of messages. Most were from an agitated Zara, interspersed with concerned notes from Lily, William, Noah, Xander, and others like Zachary, Bryan and Randolph. There were also countless apologies and promises from Kai to clear her name swiftly, along with comforting messages from Leo, Ethan, Arthur, and Oscar, all assuring her to ignore the online noise and vowing to help restore her reputation.
Oriana sent brief replies to each, then put her phone away. After washing her face and tying up her hair, she quickly finished bread and drank a cup of milk before heading out with her roommates to assemble.
Today’s assembly was half an hour earlier than yesterday, per Chuck’s instruction, for the colleagues who had erred the previous day to give their reports.
When Oriana arrived, those individuals were already standing at the front, holding several pages of notes.
Seeing most people had gathered, Chuck signaled for them to begin. “During yesterday’s patient visits, several doctors breached medical ethics and professional conduct. They will now conduct self–criticism in front of everyone!”
As the words fell, Lottie suddenly spoke up from the crowd, her voice filled with anger. “Director Hill, that’s not right. If we’re talking about breaching ethics and conduct, shouldn’t Oriana, who’s trending today, be the first one to report? She should go first!”

Even in the countryside, with the internet so prevalent, almost everyone present was aware of the scandal that had exploded online that morning.
In fact, before Oriana arrived, many had been whispering about it privately…
But now, with Lottie declaring it so publicly, the atmosphere grew tense.
Lottie looked around, a smirk playing on her lips as she took a step forward. “Director Hill, if you’re going to enforce discipline, it should be fair and just. Otherwise, how can anyone be convinced?”
The head of Neurology, Audrey Bishop, was actually quite dissatisfied with Chuck’s severe criticism of Lottie the day before.
After all, Lottie was one of her prized students.
