“Not at all. Jindiwood is filled with hidden talents–what position could an old bone like me possibly have here?”
Bramwell chuckled, “Opportunities are for young, capable people like you, Mr. Kensington. As for me, I’m practically ready to retire!”
After a pause, noticing a hint of a smile on Corvus’s face, he seized the moment and pulled something prepared in advance from his pocket.
“I’ve heard you have been searching for medical help for your daughter. Coincidentally, my original line of work is in healthcare, and I know a few connections. If you need, you could take your daughter to visit the GTB Office in Meradin.”
It was a letter of recommendation. The GTB Office in Meradin was famously known as a money pit for the wealthy. No matter how rare or difficult the illness, if one could throw enough money at it, there was a chance for a new lease on life inside.
Corvus’s daughter had suffered from a rare disease since childhood. He had gone from a street vendor to starting his own business, all to earn money for her treatment–a heartwarming story in the industry.
Corvus’s gaze paused, fixed on the invitation Bramwell had slid over.
The change in his facial expression was obvious.
Bramwell’s smile widened. “Mr. Kensington, we are the same kind of people–toiling our whole lives for our children. You for your daughter, and I must secure a future for my son. Ah, the heart of a parent truly knows no bounds!
“Today, I just wanted to befriend you, hoping you might do me a small favor. I’m asking you to request a spot in the Research Center’s Top Talent Program. I know, with your status and position, this surely isn’t a difficult task…”
Bramwell was smiling broadly, but as soon as he finished speaking, he heard Corvus coldly interject, “Mr. Sterling, we’re not the same kind of people.”
Corvus’s tone was rather icy.
But Bramwell didn’t catch the underlying meaning, assuming he was just putting on airs and acting superior.
These past few days, he had been begging and pulling strings everywhere, only to hit walls at every turn. Corvus was the only one who had agreed to meet–his last chance.
For Owen’s sake, he naturally had to swallow his displeasure now and quickly forced a smile..
“Yes, of course I can’t compare to you. Mr. Kensington, your business is so vast and successful–what are my small achievements worth?”
Corvus was blunt and mocking, his disdain unconcealed.
“Mr. Sterling, your so–called achievements are hardly presentable. Who in all of Jindiwood doesn’t know about the Sterling family’s dirty, underhanded affairs?”
The ingratiating smile froze on Bramwell’s face, his fingertips holding the invitation turning cold. “What… what do you mean by that, Mr. Kensington?”
“Your Sterling family favors sons over daughters, mixes personal and professional matters, and even fraudulently claims martyr

honors to benefit yourselves!” Corvus’s eyes were filled with harsh contempt. “You can even sell off a daughter you raised with your own hands without a second thought–cold–hearted and ruthless. In all of Jindiwood, anyone who knows what your Sterling family has done would dare to collaborate with people like you!”
Bramwell’s face flushed red with humiliation from Corvus’s scolding. He slammed the table and stood up angrily.
“Corvus! Who do you think you are? No matter how low I may have fallen, I’m not someone a small business owner like you can insult at will! Haven’t you seen the news? Don’t you know my son–in–law is Grant Holloway? His career is at its peak right now. I believe it won’t be long before he tops the domestic technology-”
“Then, Mr. Sterling, go rely on your son–in–law. Why lower yourself to beg us outsiders?”
Corvus also stood up. His build and stature were far more robust than Bramwell’s, he towered nearly a head taller than Bramwell.
Both in presence and physique, he completely overwhelmed Bramwell.
Furious and embarrassed, Bramwell wanted to lash out, but faced with Corvus’s imposing aura, the shadow looming over him, what else dared he say?
In the end, he could only grit his teeth hatefully, deliberately venting by crumpling the Meradin invitation in his hand right in front of Corvus, glaring at him defiantly.
“Are you really going to give up this hard–won opportunity? Not just anyone can get a spot at the GTB Office!”
If it weren’t for the fact that, by sheer coincidence years ago, he had helped a surgeon who later used his own skills to enter that workshop, Bramwell truly wouldn’t have had this capability!
Come to think of it, the initial investment back then was because of Oriana.
At that time, Oriana wasn’t even ten years old but was already blossoming into a graceful and lovely girl. Every time he took her out, Bramwell received a round of praise and admiration–it was particularly face–giving.
It was at a charity auction. Bramwell had brought Oriana along when a destitute medical student came begging at the auction for work. Seeing his pitiful state, Oriana pleaded with Bramwell to give the college student some money.
And a small act of kindness back then became an opportunity.
Seeing Bramwell still putting on an act, thinking he could threaten him this way…
