Sloane had done rough work since she was a child, and her strength was nothing like the feeble office drone Alaric could muster. With one swing of her arm, she sent him stumbling back several feet.
“I’m Grant’s aunt. So what if he’s busy? Why shouldn’t I go in?”
Alaric was dumbfounded. He could only watch as Sloane charged forward without even knocking, storming right into the office. “Please, don’t-!”
Inside the office, Jonathan was nestled in Grant’s lap, being kissed and held close by him.
They had been intimate just that morning, yet Grant was already craving more.
Her shoulder strap had already been slipped down when she suddenly heard a heavy thud, followed by furious footsteps.
“What… what are you two doing?”
A furious shout rang out. Jonathan flinched, but before she could react, someone viciously yanked her hair from behind. A tearing pain shot across her scalp. With a scream, she was dragged by that brute force from Grant’s embrace and flung to the floor. The skirt of her professional suit was completely rucked up–revealing she wore nothing underneath!
Sloane’s eyes burned with rage. “So it’s you, you little temptress! Seducing Grant with your wicked ways! I’ll teach you a lesson!”
Screaming curses, she swung her calloused palm, slapping Jonathan across the face again and again with sharp, stinging blows.
Jonathan’s delicate skin was no match for Sloane’s hardened hands.
Alaric, who had rushed over, nearly saw something he shouldn’t have and hurriedly stopped in his tracks, scrambling to close the door behind them.
Leaning against the door, his temples throbbed. He felt a headache coming on just imagining Grant’s predicament inside.
Why did Sloane have to show up now, of all times, and walk in…
Not only was his intimate moment interrupted, but Sloane had the audacity to lay hands on his woman right in front of him–it felt like a direct slap to his face!
“Enough!”

Grant zipped up his pants and shoved the red–faced Sloane aside with such force that the unprepared woman nearly lost her balance and fell.
Sloane stared at him in disbelief. “Grant… you… you raised your hand against your own aunt?”
Grant shielded the sobbing Jonathan behind him, his expression dark. “I respect you, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stand by and let you lay hands on someone who’s mine!”
“Yours?”
Sloane pointed a trembling finger at Jonathan. “This cheap, shameless thing who seduces a married man–how can she even be called a person?”
It was the first time Jonathan had ever been insulted so viciously. Her face flushed deep red, whether from the slaps or from fury, she couldn’t tell.
Pretending to be terrified, she hid behind Grant, lowering her head slightly while secretly cursing Sloane a thousand times over.
Damn it! In the original novel, Sloane had been won over by Luna’s petty favors.
Even before Oriana and Grant had broken up, Sloane had begun finding fault with her at every turn. She looked down on Oriana for being meek and useless, believing she couldn’t assist Grant and was nothing but a burden. She even humiliated Oriana, claiming she was unworthy of the title of Grant’s girlfriend and should step aside for someone more capable and deserving of him.
Later, when the original Jonathan got involved with Grant and was discovered, Sloane, manipulated by Luna, gave her no end of trouble and humiliation.
Jonathan had thought that since the plot was now completely altered and everything was in chaos, the hardships the original character suffered wouldn’t happen to her. Now, it was Luna who was the useless burden holding Grant back. Shouldn’t Sloane be looking down on Luna instead? Shouldn’t she be the one being humiliated? So why… why was Sloane targeting her?
A venomous chill flashed in Jonathan’s eyes.
Then, she forced out a few tears, looking up at Grant with watery, pleading eyes. “It’s all my fault… What Ms. Holloway says is right. I deserved to be hit. I deserve it!”
As she spoke, her whole body began to tremble uncontrollably. She even raised her hands to hit herself.
Grant immediately grabbed her wrists, his heart aching as he pulled her into a protective embrace. He faced Sloane, his gaze resolute. “No one gets to make decisions for me except myself!”

“You… you’re determined to protect this seductress? Even if it means defying your me?”
Grant remained unflinching. “I don’t see anything wrong with that. I don’t understand why you’re making such a scene.”
Sloane was so angry she almost laughed at his self–righteous attitude. “Grant, you… you’re confused! Can’t you see she has you under her spell? Do you even know what you’re doing?”
“I know perfectly well what I’m doing,” Grant replied, his tone laced with unmistakable sarcasm. “Weren’t you perfectly tolerant of Luna before? Why the sudden concern now?”
