"Married?!"
Jade never expected Wendy to drop such an explosive piece of news. She instantly sprayed water all over the table.
"You dated someone and hid it from me? Am I even your best friend anymore?!"
"Wait, no, hold on. Who did you marry? Please don't tell me it's Nelson."
"It's not."
Wendy shook her head. "It's a cardiothoracic surgeon from our hospital."
"An office romance?"
Catching the scent of premium gossip, Jade momentarily forgave the fact that Wendy had secretly dated behind her back. "Did you fall in love over time?"
Wendy shook her head again. "No, it was a flash marriage."
It was a long story. Wendy recounted the entire ordeal of mistaking her blind date from start to finish.
Jade simply couldn't comprehend it!
"Who marries someone after meeting them once? Why were you in such a rush to tie the knot? Spill! Are you hiding something else from me?"
Wendy paused.
She took a deep breath, gathered her emotions, and told Jade, "Wyatt got drunk last month and came into my room in the middle of the night."
"What?!" Jade nearly flipped the table.
Her chest heaved a few times before she lowered her voice and demanded, "What did he do to you?!"
"Don't worry."
Wendy grabbed Jade's wrist. "You know me, I'm a light sleeper. The second he grabbed my wrist, I woke up."
The anxiety gripping Jade's heart eased slightly.
She asked, "And then?"
Wendy hesitated.
She forced down the lingering chaos and fear of that night.
"The aftermath was that when Wyatt sobered up, he claimed he'd had too much to drink and walked into the wrong room."
"Oh, and my mom made him apologize to me."
