They had departed early that morning, and Riley's usual routine was just grabbing whatever quick bite she could find in the office.
It was the perfect time, as the restaurant had just opened.
The entire resort spanned hundreds of acres, and Riley was eager to explore.
The restaurant featured an elegant modern dining room.
Doctors shared the same occupational habits—they knew better than to soak in a hot spring on an empty stomach. So, by the time Wendy and Riley arrived, more than half of their colleagues were already in the dining area.
Sampson wasn't there.
Riley pulled Wendy along as they scanned the room, but he was nowhere to be seen.
They spotted Leo's table, sat down, and asked him, "Where's your director? You guys didn't invite your sugar daddy to breakfast?"
Since every expense today was going on Sampson's card, calling him their sugar daddy wasn't an exaggeration.
Leo shook his head. "We did. The director said not to worry about him and just enjoy ourselves."
After saying that, Leo added a teasing remark, "For a guy who studied and worked abroad, our director is surprisingly good at navigating local office politics, huh?"
Nobody actually wanted to hang out with their boss on vacation.
Sampson was deliberately giving everyone space so they could relax.
"Hmm."
Riley gave a dismissive nod.
She rushed through a few bites of her breakfast and dragged Wendy away.
According to the brochure, the resort was famous for its twelve specialty hot spring pools.
Aromatherapy, eucalyptus, mineral baths, therapeutic soaks...
Every pool offered different benefits, with the water tinted in varying soothing colors.
Wendy's gaze lingered on him for a moment.
Riley nudged Wendy's arm and whispered, "Now look over there. That woman walking toward the pavilion... is that Quinn Sawyer?"
Sampson had chosen an incredibly secluded pavilion, likely because he didn't want to be disturbed.
Because the spot was so far off the beaten path, Quinn's motive for walking over there was painfully obvious.
Unlike the two times Wendy had seen her at the hospital, today Quinn was wearing a chic khaki dress, fully made-up, and clearly dressed to impress.
"It is Dr. Sawyer," Wendy nodded.
Compared to Wendy's absolute calm, Riley's eyes were practically bulging out of her head. "Why is she here? Just hanging out? What a coincidence. I don't buy it."
"Damn it! ... You don't think she's still hung up on Dr. Sanders, found out about our retreat, and followed him here, do you?"
Riley's grip on Wendy's arm tightened.
