My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 65

"What a coincidence, Dr. Sanders."

Quinn had spotted Sampson from a distance.

He was exactly the same as he was back in school—no matter where he sat, he effortlessly drew the attention of everyone around him.

Sampson was reading a research paper submitted by one of his students on his phone.

Hearing the greeting, he gave a faint, polite nod.

It was so brief and purely obligatory that Quinn suspected he hadn't even recognized who she was.

Whatever.

Quinn decided not to humiliate herself by lingering.

On the other side.

Wendy had already dragged Riley away before Quinn even walked over to say hi.

"Don't be ridiculous."

"How is it ridiculous?!"

Riley was genuinely anxious. "Aren't you worried Quinn is actually going to throw herself at him?"

Wendy frowned slightly. "She won't."

"Every situation where someone aggressively pursues someone else usually stems from the guy giving them some kind of sign."

"I trust Sampson, and you shouldn't twist Dr. Sawyer's intentions."

Riley had on her best-friend goggles.

It was completely natural for her to take that stance.

But when a relationship hit a breaking point, it was rarely just one person's fault.

It wasn't easy for a female doctor to survive in the surgical department. Even with the hospital director backing her, Quinn had to be genuinely talented.

There was no need to tear down a highly accomplished woman just over a crush.

Wendy said, "Dr. Sawyer simply didn't know Sampson was married before."

"She's brilliant. She won't do anything inappropriate."

Riley spent all day scrolling through TikTok videos about women supporting women, so hearing Wendy put it that way immediately extinguished her fire.

Seeing the conversation speeding straight into inappropriate territory...

Wendy reached out to cover Riley's mouth.

Riley didn't dodge; instead, she burst out laughing. "Yes! Yes! Exactly that look! The classic 'playing hard to get' reaction. I tease you, and you try to stop me with that flushed face..."

"Forget Dr. Sanders, even I'm getting a little turned on," Riley cackled.

Infuriated, Wendy puffed her cheeks and glared at her. "I think you're turning into a total creep..."

Riley slung an arm around Wendy's shoulders. "Don't say that."

"Sexuality is fluid, darling. If it's you, I'd gladly be a creep."

Sometimes, Wendy simply couldn't handle her best friend's banter.

She pulled a plate of grapes from the mini-fridge, shoved one into Riley's mouth to shut her up, and yanked her down into the hot spring pool.

Beyond an intricately carved antique privacy screen hung strings of crystal beads that chimed softly together.

As the breeze drifted past, wrapping Wendy in a veil of white steam, she looked incredibly ethereal.

Riley switched her phone to the camera app and snapped a rapid succession of photos of Wendy.
