My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 66

From the candid angles to the lighting and composition, Riley was thrilled. "These are the absolute best photos I have ever taken in my entire life. Sending them to you now."

"Thanks," Wendy nodded.

Just as she received Riley's photos, her phone chimed with another unread message.

It was from Winona.

Winona: [Wendy, I heard you guys are at the hot springs! Are you having fun?]

Wendy: [Yes, we are, Mom.]

Since her phone was already full of the scenery shots she had taken for Riley, Wendy picked a few beautiful pictures of the resort and sent them over.

Winona replied instantly: [What a gorgeous resort!]

Winona: [But I've scrolled through these three times and I don't see my beautiful Wendy anywhere!]

Winona: [I want to see my gorgeous daughter!]

Because she never really had anyone to send pictures to, Wendy had never developed the habit of taking selfies.

The only photos of herself on her phone were the ones Riley had just sent her.

In a swimsuit? Absolutely inappropriate.

Wendy hesitated for a few seconds: [Mom, I didn't take any of myself.]

Winona: [Then take one right now! Have Sampson take it for you.]

Perhaps terrified of being rejected, Winona immediately followed up with three stickers of a crying puppy.

Winona: [It's been a month since I saw you. I miss you so much.]

Wendy hadn't lived with her parents since she was very young.

Truthfully, when it came to familial affection, she didn't have a very strong capacity for empathy.

But looking at the crying puppy stickers, and remembering the warmth of Winona holding her hand and chatting during their last meeting, Wendy couldn't bear to disappoint her.

She scrolled through her camera roll and found the photos Riley had just taken.

Between the lighting and the angles, you honestly couldn't tell what Wendy was wearing.

Her hair was tied up in a messy bun, with a single wet strand clinging to her forehead.

The faint outline of the straps on her shoulders blended perfectly into the swirling white steam. No wonder Riley had bragged that these looked like professional studio shots.

A person's eyes couldn't hide genuine happiness.

It was a subconscious reaction.

If Riley hadn't pointed it out, Wendy wouldn't have noticed it at all.

The softness and happiness Riley saw in her eyes was likely just her subconscious longing for an ideal family dynamic.

"Alright, enough psychoanalyzing me, Dr. Reed."

Wendy popped a piece of pineapple into Riley's mouth.

Riley leaned back against the stone wall. "Delicious! I bet even Dr. Sanders doesn't get this kind of royal treatment, huh?"

"Hurry, feed me another one."

Riley playfully tilted Wendy's chin up, but before she could tease the doctor any further...

Ding-dong. Ding-dong.

The doorbell chimed.
