...the group decided not to travel back together.
Wendy wasn't used to spending the night away from home.
As the sun began to set, she asked Riley if she wanted to head back with her.
Riley immediately declared, "Absolutely not! If you leave, I get this entire luxury suite to myself."
So, Wendy sent Sampson a text.
They agreed to meet at the main entrance in thirty minutes.
Terrified of a repeat performance with Leo.
Wendy specifically told Sampson she would head down first, and he should wait a few minutes before following.
The family chauffeur was coming to pick them up.
Sampson sent her the license plate number.
The hotel's parking lot was located near the side gardens, and to get there, she had to cross the main lobby.
Since it was dinner time, the lobby was practically deserted.
"Wendy."
Just as she reached the automatic sliding doors, a male voice called out to her.
Wendy turned around to see Nelson.
They had already made things perfectly clear last time, and there was no need to treat him like a total stranger.
After all, her department's charity fund still relied heavily on Chairman Sutton's financial support.
Wendy stopped and offered a polite greeting. "Nelson. What a coincidence."
"It's not a coincidence."
Nelson handed his car keys to a valet and slowly walked over to her. "I came here specifically to find you."
"I stopped by the hospital earlier, and Dr. Franklin told me your department was having a retreat here."
Wendy frowned. "Nelson, I thought we made everything perfectly clear last time."
Nelson's tone remained calm and measured. He looked directly into her eyes and explained, "Wendy, I've already made things clear with Willa. She won't be a problem."
"This has nothing to do with Willa."
Following Sampson's line of sight, she glanced toward the entrance. "That's Dr. Gates standing by the sliding doors, isn't it?"
"Is the cardiology department hosting a retreat here today?"
"Yes."
Sampson gave a tight, polite nod and immediately looked down at his phone.
Seeing that he clearly had zero interest in making small talk, Quinn cast a sidelong glance at him and let a smirk play on her lips. "That's Nelson talking to Dr. Gates, right?"
"Everyone in neurology knows Nelson is absolutely infatuated with Dr. Gates. Have you heard the rumors since you transferred here, Dr. Sanders?"
Sampson wasn't stupid. He knew exactly what Quinn was insinuating.
He frowned, his eyes locking onto her. "What exactly are you trying to say, Dr. Sawyer?"
Throughout their time as alumni and their brief interactions at the hospital, Sampson had always been the picture of absolute, unshakeable composure.
It was incredibly rare to see his emotions bleed through.
Quinn studied him for a long moment.
She shrugged and let out a soft laugh. "Nothing really. I'm just curious... is Dr. Sanders really going to just stand there and watch another man confess his love to his wife?"
