Outstanding people always attracted the attention of the opposite sex.
Especially when that person was right beside you, working together day in and day out.
Before she knew Sampson Sanders was married, Quinn had definitely harbored feelings for him.
But the moment she heard he had a wife, those feelings vanished.
They were replaced by pure curiosity.
She wondered what kind of woman could stand beside a man like him.
Guessing it was Wendy Gates wasn't particularly difficult.
The fact that Sampson returned to work in the country meant his wife was local.
The cardiothoracic nurses had mentioned he spent his recent on-call shifts at the hospital. Combined with his reaction when he called Wendy's name on his first day, the pieces fell into place.
Quinn pursed her lips. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were married before. I hope Dr. Gates didn't get the wrong idea."
"Then I'd appreciate it if you kept my wife's identity a secret," Sampson replied.

Nelson Sutton stubbornly refused to leave, though he hadn't done anything completely out of line.
"Nelson," Wendy said, her tone dripping with impatience.
A second later, her phone rang.
Sampson's voice came through the receiver. "Wendy, do you need me to come over?"
Even from dozens of feet away, Wendy spotted him in the crowd instantly.
He stood beneath the main lobby chandelier, his eyes shadowed and strikingly intense against the backlight.
By the looks of it, he had been waiting for a while.
"Yes," Wendy answered.
"Who are you talking to?" Nelson asked.
Judging by the tone she used on the phone, he could tell the person on the other end was someone special to her.
Nelson followed Wendy's line of sight.
He watched as Sampson walked over, step by step, stopping right in front of them.
"Nelson," Sampson greeted calmly.
"Director Sanders?"
Nelson froze the moment he saw Sampson casually take Wendy's hand.
Was the husband Wendy kept talking about actually Sampson Sanders?
She looked up, studying the man for a few extra seconds, and voiced exactly what was on her mind.
"Sampson, has anyone ever told you that you're actually incredibly suited for marriage?"
The tall, broad-shouldered man tilted his head slightly. "Well, you just did."
Their joined hands never separated.
The driver noticed it from inside the car.
He discreetly snapped a photo and sent it to Winona.
Sampson squeezed her fingertips. "You did great today too, Dr. Gates."
Wendy was confused. "Like how?"
He raised an eyebrow. "I told you to come to me if you needed help, and today, you actually did."
"That was great."
-
"So, with an atmosphere that perfect, you two still didn't do anything?"
Jade Sterling was completely exhausted from waiting for them to finally consummate their marriage.
Wendy blinked. "Does holding hands count?"
