Chapter 139
Chloe’s POV
Axel and I arrived at breakfast much later than everyone else, so when we entered, everyone turned to look at us.
I quickly did a scan of the entire dining hall. There were about twenty different packs, seated in their pairs or trios. on smaller tables.
Sandra waved from the corner where she was seated with her brother and Riven. Axel and I walked there and sat with them. Jax and Hannah were also there but they were a lot more silent than I expected.
I guess Jax was still shaken up from Axel snarling at him earlier when he entered our bedroom.
They had joined two tables so we would all be able to sit.
“Where on Earth have you been?” Riven leaned closer and sniffed my body like a dog. “You smell like man. Were you rolling in your sheets while we were waiting for you?”
I rolled my eyes but did not refute her words.
Both women’s eyes slightly widened and their gaze darted between Axel and me.
“You two…I thought…did something happen between last night and this morning?” Sandra asked, her tone hushed.
So much that I was still trying to wrap my head around it. But the feeling of Axel’s fingers intertwined with mine was real.
As much as I wanted to talk more about last night as I was sure that Sandra and Riven had so many questions, I could not do so now.
Other tables were outrightly watching us by now. We were the only two packs that were seated together and talking like we were friends.
Whether we liked it or not, this was making a political statement to the rest of the Alphas and Lunas present, that Moonflame and Everdeen were allies and should not be messed with for fear of the wrath of the combined packs.
When the food was wheeled in, Axel asked me. “What do you want to eat?”
I was about to give him one of my practiced polite responses but held myself back at the last minute, actually thinking about the question.
Before I could say anything, Jax muttered. “Pineapple.”
My entire body went still. The exact same response had been on my lips to respond. How did he know that?
I watched his face, trying to decipher what was going through his mind. Had he come back in time? Was he simply just watching me in this life?
But we hardly ever had meals together. How would he be able to guess my preferred fruit?
Jax kept his gaze stubbornly on the table, refusing to give me anything. My gaze slid to Hannah beside him.
I expected her to be upset that her mate was looking out for me but she was not even paying attention. Her gaze kept darting towards a table in the left corner of the room.
When I saw the man that she was giving her suggestive looks to, I smiled.

Donatello Regali.
think the trap had set for her weeks ago still bore fruit.
It would still be satisfying to sit back and watch her destroy herself but with Hannah, I had developed a bit of a vengeful streak.
I had not properly paid her and her father back for everything they did to me and my mother, however foolish she is, in my past life and this life.
David was currently on trial back at home but that was not enough. They had abused me, sold me off to the Alpha family when it was convenient and attempted to bully me to hand over my money and research.
All I had been to them was nothing more than a maid and when I married Jax, an ATM.
I felt Axel’s hand tighten around mine. I looked up at his face to see him wearing a wide smile.
He leaned closer to whisper so low that only me could hear. “You look like you want to kill someone. Do you need help?”
An easy smirk lifted up to my face and I replied him at the same volume. “The dignified heir of the Everdeen pack helping with petty schemes?”
His index brushed my hair behind my ear and he leaned in to kiss my exposed cheek. “Anything for you.” His lips moved to my ear. “Do you have problems with the Regali family?”
More like they have problems with the source of their fundings.
