Chapter 140
Caloe’s POV
After breakfast, we all decided to take a walk through the grounds of the Alpha King’s pack.
There were no more words to describe it than beautiful. All the while, I kept thinking that this could have been my home.
Rather than living out of cardboard boxes and bad takeout, I could have grown up among lily fields and clear streams that had koi fish in them.
I lowered to a squat near one of the streams and dipped my hand in the water. The fish swam in that direction, nibbling and brushing against my fingers.
I heard the click of a camera above me and looked up to see Axel holding his phone as he took pictures of me.
“What is a vacation without pictures?” he said and the others near us started taking pictures as well.
I suppose we could consider this a vacation. I do not know the next time that we will be able to get away from the pack for an entire week without any work assigned to us.
Halfway through our walk, I grew hungry again.
When my stomach growled, Axel burst into laughter. My cheeks tinted and I turned my back to him. “That was… just forget you heard that.”
Axel did not stop laughing for another ten seconds but saying he was going to get me something to eat. The others had wandered ahead of us so I waited on a nearby bench for him to get back.
“Chloe Waterson,” I heard behind me.
I turned around with a raised brow and came face to face with a person that I did not expect to approach me. Donatello Regali,” I replied but did not get to my feet.
Donatello’s brow raised. “You know who I am.”
((
“Your family is quite popular on the East Coast,” I replied. “I come across your news from time to time. And you must be his mate.”
The woman beside him was glaring at me, her hands tight around Donatello’s sleeve like I was going to try to steal him away.
The thought was so ridiculous that I let a chuckle slip, leaning back on the bench and crossing my legs. “You may sit. It is a very wide bench.”
Donatello instantly dropped beside me but his mate opted to stand. “This is Seraphina,” he said, pointing to her. “ Ignore her. She gets very shy around strangers.”
I nodded, smiling wider at her. “A pleasure to meet you, Seraphina.”
Hearing me call her by her name made her face twist in anger. Her mouth opened and then, her gaze fell to Donatello.
“A pleasure to meet you too,” she replied through gritted teeth, sitting down because Donatello gave her a look.
“I feel like I have offended someone by calling them by their name,” I said teasingly. “Ignore my humble background. I am an orphan, not a murderer.”

Seraphina flushed hard but remained silent. Donatello’s arm slipped around his mate’s shoulder and he pulled her-into his side.
“Where is the young heir of Everdeen?” Donatello asked. “The two of you have been quite a popular couple recently. Rumour has it that you two had dinner with the royal family last night.”
Truth be told, I had been expecting someone to see. Maybe one or two people at most.
But if rumours were already spreading, I wondered what they were saying. I really did not want my relationship with the royal family to become public news.
It would be very inconvenient for the future.
“That pill of yours is something, huh? His Majesty used it for her daughter and it worked. What feward were you given by the King and Queen?”
Oh. He thought the dinner was because of the pill. Good. I would rather him keep thinking that.
“They paid for it. I don’t need any more reward than that,” I said, my mind running as I tried to figure out why he had approached me.
Did he see me looking at me this morning and think something else? I wished he would get straight to the point so I would shut down whatever notions he had in his head about me.
“The money must be good.” Donatello’s smile widened. “You are very young and Everdeen keeps you well-fed and clothed. If you do not mind me asking…”
He trailed off but I knew what he wanted to ask. I now also knew where this was going.
It was a pitch.
Somehow, in this life, Donatello or maybe the entire Regali family had put me on their radar of their potential investors.
How would a young, naive to-be Luna of some random pack fight their family when I was scammed out of my money at the end of the day?
I let out a small sigh. I had not planned on going after the Regali family.
Since they were going to get their retribution eventually, I planned on leaving them alone but they decided to come after me to exploit me.
They should not blame me if I took them out.
“Most of my money is already tied up in several investments under Luna Silvia’s guidance,” I said casually, tossing the name of Moonflame out there. “I just keep a bit out for my leisure.”.
