My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155

Chloe’s POV

Liam and I were still talking when Axel woke up.

He quickly scanned the room, getting oriented with his environment. When he saw me sitting up on the bed beside him, he gave me a smile that could have charmed a god.

“Chloe,” he whispered, his hand reaching for me.

“If you dare touch me, I swear I will kill you,” I snapped.

His hand froze and dropped to his side. Axel shut his eyes and let out a small sigh. “What did I do this time?”

Before I could yell at him, he responded. “I should probably not have jumped out as leader but I had to protect you. Those men could not get to you, no matter what.”

It was so difficult to be upset at Axel sometimes but I had to pretend at the very least.

My brow raised. “And guess who needed saving? You. Were you thinking about the fact that you could have made me a widow before we were even mated?”

Axel’s nose scrunched. “You are not going to be a widow.”

A derisive laugh slipped from my lips. “Well, someone clearly thinks they are invincible. So help me Goddess, if you put yourself in that situation again, I will fucking kill you before the hunters get to you.

Axel was clearly not taking me seriously because he had the audacity to smile, his arms wrapping around me. “Yes, princess. Now, can we sleep? Today has been one hell of a day…”

He trailed off when he noticed Liam in the room, staring at the two of us with slightly narrowed eyes.

“Oh. You,” Axel said slowly, sitting up as well. “Your Highness, what a slightly pleasant surprise.”

Liam did not reply for a few more seconds, staring between Axel and me.

“Your relationship makes me uncomfortable,” he finally said, his tone blunt. “I am trying to figure out whether it is because she is my sister or I just think you both do not fit.”

“Regardless, it does not concern you,” I replied, trying to get Axel to lay back down in bed. “If you are done, you can get out.”

“Do you know anything about your mother’s bloodline?” Liam suddenly asked.

I rolled my eyes. “You want to tell me that my mother is suddenly some lost noble because I shifted a few months before you did? I assure you that is not the case.”

I had a perfectly reasonable explanation for it. I was twenty-eight years old on the inside. Accurately, I shifted ten years ago for the first time.

But neither of them would understand that explanation and quite frankly, I fear I might be locked up and taken to a lab so they could check my insides, princess or not.

“If you want to stay here and keep asking irrelevant questions, you have time to find the people who

attacked my mate tonight,” I said coldly as my eyes met Axel’s bandages.

He always looked so strong, like a mountain I could hide behind. Seeing him battered on the bed because of humans…my heart could not help but squeeze in my chest.

Sensing my mood shift, Axel’s arm slipped around me and he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “I’m okay,” he whispered.

I hummed, sounding calm but my fist clutched the mattress underneath us

Axel got discharged from the hospital three days later. By then, the Alpha meet should nearly be over but no one looked like they were planning to leave anytime soon.

“I told you that you should have gotten a wheelchair,” I snapped and he flinched, his grin not faltering.

“The wheelchair is slow,” he said while limping. “The wolfsbane is gone from my system so in a while, I will be fine-”

“Yes, because Liam decided to give you blood,” I hissed, the thought making me even angrier. “What were you even thinking, getting so injured like that? Now, you have made us owe the royal family.”

Hearing that, Axel frowned slightly.

“Yeah, I know but you agreed to it too. Did you want me lying down in a sick bed for a few weeks?”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “You could have just marked me. I’m of royal blood too, you know,” I muttered in annoyance.

Axel stopped walking and turned to me with wide eyes. “Chloe, what did you-”

“Alpha Axel!” someone yelled from the front of the guest house. Both of us turned to see an unfamiliar man running towards us.

I might have seen him around this past week.

He ran towards us, heaving. “I have been looking all over for you. They… inside, they are screaming at your brother at his mate, because they both ran off during the battle.”

My brow raised. “Who is screaming at Jax?”

The man tried to explain but he was gasping too much. “Just take us there,” Axel said.

The man led us around the house. A casual outdoor dinner was going on without none of the screaming but the tension in the air was real.

Hannah and Jax were seated on an isolated table in the corner, eating their dinner, their faces scrunched like the meal was sandpaper being forced down their throats.

We had just walked in when one of the Lunas said loudly. “I wonder. Luna Chloe was supposed to have a sister, right-”

“No, don’t you remember? She is estranged from her family,” the woman beside her corrected. “They were a bunch of blood suckers who wanted to take all the money she earned from her new company.”

“Stealing from a seventeen year old. How low,” her mate commented. “Then again, what should I expect from people who run away during a fight?”

“Perhaps they should start screening events like this before inviting people. It disgusts me to be in the same room as some.”

“Tell me about it. This is supposed to be a meeting for leaders, not cowards who run away with their tails between their legs and get a power trip from abusing a woman.”
