Chapter 165

Chloe’s POV

Rather than toss the food out, I simply climbed back into bed with Axel.

His arms wrapped around me were warm enough to lull me to sleep.

When I woke up, it was dark outside. Axel sat up in bed with a plate of food on the table beside him. He had been staring intently at my face while he ate absentmindedly.

“Hi,” I whispered as I sat up, resting against his side.

He stretched the fork to my lips. “Hey. You look exhausted. Did you have a nightmare or something?”

I took a bite of the food, my hands rubbing my forehead. My past life married to Jax could be counted as a nightmare, right?

“Probably,” I muttered. “I can barely remember it though.”

For a moment, Axel looked like he did not believe me but then, completely ignored it to continue to feed me. We will be landing soon and I doubt Mother and Father would let us rest before we answer their questions.”

I was probably going to get an earful from Luna Diane as well. This whole time, I did not call her when I had promised to.

The most communication we had was a text at the beginning to inform her that we arrived safely and one after the attack where she asked how Axel was doing.

I suspect that she did not push for more communication because Viktor must have been giving them updates.

When he raised the fork to my lips again, that was when I noticed what we were eating. My gaze moved to the tray in the corner of the room.

It really was from the meal that Jax brought in earlier.

Axel was looking down at me with so much confusion that I could not even be upset at him.

Besides, it was just a meal. It did not mean anything.

We finished eating and took a long soak in the tub. After chasing him off of me for another thirty minutes, we came out of the bedroom.

The bedroom door opposite ours was also open. As we walked by, I caught a glimpse of someone’s back heading into the closet.

When we stepped out into the main area of the plane, Jax was missing. Hannah was the only one there sitting in the same spot she had been hours ago before Axel took me inside.

She was still transfixed by whoever she was speaking to, a small smile on her face as she typed back a reply.

I moved away from Axel as silently as I could and peeked over her shoulder. The name at the top made me smile.

“You and Donatello really hit off a lot at the meet, huh?” I said and she jumped, her face going beet red.

She placed her phone close to her chest. “What the hell do you want, you bitch?”

Axel growled behind me and Hannah flinched. I smirked when Hannah flinched again. “Why are you so jumpy?”

I straightened, stretching my arms over my head. “I do not care who you speak to in your private time. Though I have to question if this is the way people do business these days, texting for hours on end.”

As I said that, Jax came from the back of the plane, wearing new clothes from earlier. He looked between Hannah and me.

“What is going on?”

“Nothing,” Hannah and I replied simultaneously, only that she was far more panicked than I was.

I walked past Jax and sat beside Axel. “How long until we get home?”

“Thirty minutes, Luna,” one of the flight attendants passing by responded. “There is already a car waiting at the airport.”

The next thirty minutes were painfully silent. When we arrived, Viktor greeted us at the car that waited outside the airport.

As much as I was curious to know how he had arrived here before us, I figured that it was none of my business.

Thankfully, Jax and Hannah drove in a different car from Axel and me.

“When we get home, just let me take the lead,” Axel said.

I looked up at him and snorted. “You think I was planning to face Luna Diane by myself? I am contemplating climbing into my bedroom from the window.”

We kept talking about random stuff until we crossed into Everdeen territory.

Alpha and Luna were waiting in front of the pack house with their arms crossed over their chests, glaring at the two cars as they slowed down to a halt.

I held onto Axel’s arm. “Maybe we should have gotten souvenirs.”

“You think a keychain would save us from their anger?” Suddenly, Axel paused and looked down at me. “You know what? I do have a plan.”

I looked up excitedly at him, waiting for him to say something but he simply pulled me closer and kissed me.

My lips parted in a small squeak and he took it as his chance to slip his tongue into my mouth.

Was this his plan? How was this supposed to help us with his parents?

Despite my confusion, I did not push him away, holding his collar to draw him closer.

A minute later, the car door opened and Axel and I separated, both of us blinking to clear our vision.

Luna Diane stood there, staring with a blank expression on her face. We stayed silent until she spoke. “You two… you two are…come with me.”
