Chapter 166
Chloe’s POV
Axel slacked into the chair opposite his father and let out a very disrespectful groan. “Father, we have been on our feet since morning. Can you give us a break?”
Alpha Paul’s brow raised and he looked between Axel and me. “On your feet? Is that why Chloe is drenched in your scent?”
My cheeks went beet red and I lowered my head. Axel sat up, his lips parted slightly. “That…that is different.”
“Really?” Luna Diane spat, crossing her arms over her chest. “Paul, perhaps the reason they did not report back home was because they were too engrossed in each other.”
Axel opened his mouth and then shut it. His tongue stuck in his cheek.
“Mother, you were the one giving me tips on how to court Chloe. Now that I am courting her, why do you still have a problem with it?”
My lips parted and I turned to Luna Diane. She was looking at her son like she wanted him six feet under.
“You-”
“That is no way to speak to your mother,” Alpha Paul said, his expression blank. “But we will handle this later. Jax and Hannah, you may leave.”
As they walked out, they turned around and gave Axel and me curious glances. Luna Diane shut the door behind.
them.
Alpha Paul reached into his desk and brought out a letter. It carried the official seal of the royal pack on the body with Liam’s name as the sender.
“Chloe, do you mind explaining the contents of this letter?” Alpha Paul asked and I paused, not quite sure of what exactly he was referring to.
Liam and I had spoken about a lot of things over the past few days that he could be writing to Alpha Paul about any of them. And I did not want to accidentally reveal what I should not yet.
“What exactly is the content of the letter?” I asked Alpha Paul carefully.
His eyes narrowed. “You are not even sure what exactly the prince could be writing to me about. You two must have discussed a lot.”
I kept my face blank so as not to give anything away. Alpha Paul stared at me for a few seconds longer before sighing in irritation and picking up the envelope.
“You embarrassed the director of the institute of biology and they submitted a complaint to the king,” Alpha Paul explained. “However, I am quite unsure if you are in trouble because you have also been named an honorary member of the board of the institute.”
My breath hitched. An honorary member of the board?
That was a position that even people with decades in the field could not get to. Was this not far too partial of Liam?
Alpha Paul reached into his drawer and brought out another letter. Rather than the gold envelope, it was black with silver lettering.

I could figure out who this one was from.
Then, this letter is from the Assassin King,” Alpha Paul said. “A letter of goodwill, or so he calls it. It is practically a veiled threat that if anything happens to his godsister, there will be all hell to pay.”
Alpha Paul’s eyes narrowed. “When did the Assassin King become your godbrother? When were you adopted as a godchild by the Moonflame family?”
My lips could not move.
All this while, I had actually not informed Alpha Paul or Luna Diane of exactly how much like family Moonflame treated me.
They must have thought all this while that I was simply their benefactor so they treated me like an honored guest,
Alpha Paul brought out another box and opened it. It was a stack of letters, bearing different seals and signatures.
“All of these are from Alphas far and wide, asking for an alliance opportunity with our pack. The gifts are still being received and recorded now.”
Alpha Paul leaned forward on the desk. “You were gone for two weeks. Two weeks, Chloe! How much stuff could you possibly get to in two weeks to gather this much attention?”
My mouth opened and closed but I could not find words to say.
Besides interacting more with the royal family, I really did not think I had done anything extraordinary, at least, nothing deserving of this attention.
“Maybe they are all just kind?” I said, my voice high-pitched.
When Alpha Paul did not say anything, my hands started to shake. Though I was eighteen now, since I was now determined to stay with Axel, Alpha Paul was still my Alpha and could punish me.
Luna Diane noticed my reaction and sighed. “Paul, she is just eighteen. She was simply being herself out there.”
Alpha sighed. “Can she be herself without drawing all of this attention? Some of these Alphas are even bold enough to ask to send their daughters to be her assistant!”
His finger tapped on the table. “Also, Moonflame endorsed her pill and patent. The royal family added her to the institute of wolf biology. Do you realize how ridiculous it makes us look that we have not rewarded her?”
I blinked. “What?”
Alpha Paul’s head snapped to me. “What is it?”
“You wanted to reward me?”
Alpha Paul looked at me like I was being ridiculous.
“Of course. When you returned. But now, I cannot think of what would serve as a suitable enough reward. The gold the royal family sent is enough to cover the pack’s expenses for the year.”
My eyes widened slightly and I instantly brought out my phone. “I can send some back to Liam. It’s too much—”
“Liam?”
Crap. I had accidentally addressed the crown prince by his first name.
