Chapter 33

Chloe’s POV
I was passing by the living room in the morning when I ran into Alpha Paul. Without a word, he beckoned me to follow him.
I walked after him without protest until we got to his office. He did not let me sit until the office filled in with the rest of the audience that this questioning ought to have.
Celestia. Luna Diane and Axel.
“Where were you yesterday?” Alpha Paul asked, his tone firm, intimidating.
I did not know the audacity that had been flowing through my veins recently so I could answer, “On a personal day.”
The already quiet office went deadly silent.
His eyes narrowed sharply as his Alpha energy slid over my skin. “A personal day? Doing what?”
“Shopping,” I said, my gaze sliding to my silent mate. If he was trying to use his father to threaten me into speaking, he would be sorely mistaken. “Axel helped me unload my shopping bags.”
Axel’s body froze for a second as his father turned to him with a raised eyebrow. “That is…true, Father.”
Then, Alpha Paul turned back to me. Before he could say anything, I bowed and cut in. “I was not aware that after I mated Axel, I had to ask for permission before I was allowed to leave the pack. Forgive me for my carelessness, Alpha.”
If he kept pressing the matter, he would be doing one of two things.
Admitting that Hannah and I were not allowed to leave the pack without his permission which would bite him later in the ass when anyone in this room brought up that Hannah had been outside the pack several
times.
Or he would be admitting that he was treating me differently than he treated Hannah.
Either was not a good look for him and as the smart man he was, he realized that.
“Your etiquette is a mess,” he said through gritted teeth.
“I apologize for my poor manners,” I said, keeping my tone level and respectful.
Alpha Paul’s gaze only grew sharper. For a moment, I risked it and looked him straight in the eyes. One second passed.
Two. Before I bowed again.
There was a creak from his direction, probably the wood of his chair crinkling from how tightly he held the handle. “I have decided that you need a teacher and there is no better person to teach you than
1/3
Celestia Crane.”

This had to be some kind of joke. My gaze darted between Celestia’s face and back to Alpha Paul.
The first wore a smug smirk. The second waited in sheer anticipation for me to fly into a rage and challenge his authority.
