My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Chloe’s POV

As the door opened, I called out without looking up from my tablet. “Sandra, could you help me get the tangerines from the table?”

The bowl was placed on my thigh. That was when I noticed that it was a very masculine hand.

My head snapped up and made eye contact with Darius. I flushed all the way to my hairline. “I am so sorry. I thought you were-”

“Sandra?” he completed and settled into the seat beside mine. “I could tell. You and my sister have become very close in the past few days. It is almost as though she has forgotten who her real sibling is.”

He said that but there was no malice in his voice. I watched him from the corner of my eyes, wondering what he was doing here.

I had had the members of their family come in at different times over the past three days but not Darius. He was far too busy cleaning up the mess at the dock with the local authorities while investigating the

hunters and their network.

Axel had chosen to leave the torture…I mean, information extraction to Moonflame since they were the ones who were most wronged in the situation.

From what I had heard, Luna Silvia was one heck of a mama bear, frightful with a knife and a pair of

needles.

“Most of the people that we caught were grunts. Their organization is based on some kind of hierarchy so it is a lot larger than we thought it was,” he said. “We are still trying to see if any more useful information will come out but I really think that they have told us all they know.”

“Maybe I could have Liam look into it?” I offered and Darius’ eyes narrowed slightly, just a fraction of a

centimetre but I noticed it.

“Do you really trust that man so much? How are you sure that he is on our side?”

Very valid concern, especially when I had not known him for so long. And even now, I still did not know where he had been over the past few years and what he had been up to.

“I don’t know…” I admitted. “Do you have a better idea?”

“Not one that is fast enough.” Darius sighed. “Liam is pissed that we let Celestia back into the pack. He has been running circles around our IT experts, logging them out of their own computers and tampering with their networks.”

Oh. That was why he was here.

“You want me to get him to stop?” I asked and Darius nodded, looking irritated that he even needed to make such a request.

I reached for my phone and dialed Liam’s number. He picked up on the second ring, sounding like he was in the middle of a screaming match. “Hi, pookie.”

The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a crash and the sound of glass shattering and then, more screaming. “Are you alright?” I asked slowly.

“Yeah, of course. Oh, is it the noise? Give me a second.” He leaned away from the phone and there was a loud thud in his background. “Oi. Shut your airholes. Can’t you see I am on the phone?”

To my surprise, the area around him went pin-drop silent and then, he returned. “What were you saying, pookie?”

“Darius was saying something about you preventing his IT people from doing their research,” I started.

Liam clicked his tongue. “Those half-asses. Like they would be able to get anywhere. With the speed of their softwares, it would be New Year’s before they found anything.”

I glanced from the corner of my eyes at Darius and he nodded. “So I am guessing that you have the information that we are looking for.”

“Some of it, to give you a headstart,” Liam said. “I have been way too busy with….Jared! I told you not to bring your whore of a wife into this building! Last time she was here, she tried to jump one of our

partners.”

Some man in his background responded in a tone that was both indignant and apologetic. Liam was not having it. “I do not care if she is pregnant. Hire a caretaker. We sure damn well pay you enough to do so.

Idiot.”

My brows raised. If I remembered clearly, Liam should have just turned eighteen recently, just a few

months older than me.

Unless he was an Alpha’s son or a wealthy merchant’s son, there was no way he was speaking to fully grown men like that without repercussions.

“What were we saying, love?” he said, returning to the phone. “Ah, right. I can send over the information,

of course, for a price.”

Darius stiffened. “What do you want?”

“Oh, not with you,” Liam said. “With my pooh bear. I want something from her in exchange for this. I will even throw in my full weight and get you what you want.”

My mind ran through dozens of possibilities and then decided that it would just be easier if Liam just said what he wanted.
