My Stepsister Returned To Rewrite Fate But I Became Luna (Chloe) novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Chloe’s POV

As it turned out, there could actually be quite a harm.

I had no idea how Liam was doing it but the only time he called was when Axel was in the room. The first time it happened, Axel had been annoyed and then left the room.

Liam ended the call in ten minutes and called back again after dinner when all of us were in the living room watching television. Having to excuse myself to pick up his calls was beyond embarrassing.

“You cannot keep doing this,” I whispered, my back pressed flat against the door of my bedroom.

Liam grinned cheekily, looking at me from above his pillow as he laid on his front on his bed. The T-shirt that he wore did nothing to hide the muscles bulging from his arms. I was right; he had grown to be a lot more handsome from back then.

“Why not? You are the one that agreed to this.”

What I had agreed to was one video call for thirty minutes, not four at odd times throughout the day seven minutes each. And I was practically obligated to pick up the call every single time.

“Is your bodyguard still tormenting you?” he asked.

I could practically feel Viktor’s presence through the door.

The night that they had dropped me off, an emergency came up at the pack and Mara had to return the very next afternoon. So I told Viktor to go with her after vehemently promising that I was not going to leave the pack.

I broke the promise the very next day, getting myself landed in the hospital. By the time he had even arrived back at Moonflame, I was not even back yet.

Since then, he had not let me out of his sight, even for the calls.

“Let’s not speak about that now,” I said, sighing. “Liam, you are going to get me killed. My mate is going

to kill me.”

Axel had not spoken to me in days, since the day the calls started. Even when we happened to be in the same room, he just treated me like I was invisible.

I was not concerned about that really. If anything, I was used to being invisible to him but the glares he kept sending my way just kept making me uncomfortable.

“When are you going back home-”

“Do not even think about doing this when I get home,” I snapped, interrupting him.

Rather than be deterred, he simply grinned. “You think someone is going to misinterpret our relationship? I mean, according to you, we are just friends.”

What did he mean by according to me? Like I was denying something that was between us.

Suddenly, his eyes turned sad. “Chloe, I really missed you these past few years. I mean, not like everyday but you were on my mind very often. Our friendship….I do not think I had ever hit off with someone so quickly or found someone who understood me so well.”

I tucked my knees under my chin. It would be unfair to him to say that I did not understand the feeling

because I did.

Most people our age made friends in school. When you were smart enough to skip grades early on, you no longer had friends your age. So you were being set up for a very lonely life.

“I missed this,” I admitted in a low voice. Having someone to talk to.

Liam smiled even wider and then changed the subject, talking about some random meeting that his father had dragged him to.

I pulled myself in my bed, listening to him talk with droopy eyes. I was not sure when I fell asleep to the

sound of his soothing voice.

When I woke up, there was someone else on my bed. Sandra.

She was staring at me with bright curious eyes that were more alarming than anything. “So…who is this mystery man? Liam, right?”

I sat up in the bed, rubbing my eyes. When had I even fallen asleep and how had I slept so deeply that I had not noticed her entering my bedroom?

“You don’t have to get up, you know?” she said. “It’s almost midnight.”

I nodded and lay back down in the bed, focused on going back to sleep but she stopped me again. Come on. Say something. Who is Liam?”

“He is a friend I made in some camp a few years back.” My eyes peeked open. “Not some not-so-secret paramour that I am keeping on the side besides Axel.”

Even if I could bring myself to be an animal like Jax and cheat, I could not do that to Liam.

“Oh, we know you two are not lovers,” she said. “Who speaks to their lover in front of their main spouse? Besides, I have guy friends. I know what friendships with them are like. It’s just that…even Axel does not

make you that nervous when you talk to him but Liam…”

My head tilted. Was I nervous when I spoke to Liam? I did not think so. I had no reason to be.
