Two hours later, Seraphina stood outside the city hall, staring at the freshly stamped marriage license in her hands, completely dazed.
It felt entirely surreal.
Just yesterday, she had been brimming with anticipation to marry her longtime boyfriend, Sebastian. Today, she had legally bound herself to Lucian.
The pristine document featured a formal seal, and opening it revealed a stiffly posed photo of her and Lucian.
In the picture, her smile was a bit rigid, while Lucian maintained his signature stoic expression, unreadable as always.
But as of this exact moment, they were legally husband and wife.
It was simply unimaginable.
"Mrs. Langford. A pleasure."
The deep, resonant voice floated down from above her.
Seraphina looked up, meeting Lucian's steady gaze.
"Mr. Langford. The pleasure is mine," she replied softly.
*Yay!* Little Bean cheered, radiating pure satisfaction. *From now on, I'm a baby with a Mommy and a Daddy!*
Listening to that sweet, innocent voice in her head, a strange warmth flooded Seraphina's chest.
*Don't worry, Mommy, I'll keep a close eye on Daddy for you!* Little Bean swore solemnly. *If he ever dares to flirt with another woman, I'll kick your tummy to warn you!*
Seraphina was utterly speechless.
A tummy kick as an alarm system?
What kind of wild logic was that?
Seraphina couldn't help but let out a soft laugh.
This kid was an absolute comedian.
"What are you thinking about?"
Seraphina snapped out of her reverie. "Nothing. It just feels... a little unreal."
"I said, I'm married," Lucian repeated, his tone perfectly flat. "We registered the license today."
"..."
Another suffocating silence stretched on.
Then, the old woman's voice spiked several octaves. "Lucian Langford! Don't you dare try to pull a fast one on me! Did you think I'd just buy some random lie about you getting hitched? You don't even have a female mosquito buzzing around you! Who did you marry? Thin air?!"
Lucian massaged his temple and pulled the phone a few inches from his ear.
Once the shouting ceased, he brought it back, his voice as calm as still water. "Grandma, I'm not lying to you. I really got married."
"Then bring her back right now so I can see for myself!" Grandma Eleanor demanded, sounding incredibly stubborn. "Bring her here right this second! I want to see which poor girl was blind enough to marry a stoic block of ice like you!"
Lucian's lips twitched slightly as his gaze shifted to Seraphina.
Seraphina had caught fragments of the screaming through the phone, and she offered a highly awkward smile.
*Mommy!* Little Bean shrieked, practically bursting with joy. *It's Great-Grandma! We're going to see Great-Grandma! She is the absolute best, she's going to spoil you rotten!*
