Seraphina took the invitation. It was tucked inside a high-quality cream envelope. A delicately pressed dried flower sealed the flap, giving it a uniquely elegant touch.
She opened it up to find a handwritten card, the penmanship graceful and perfectly neat.
"Dear Ms. Simmons, My name is Gillian Harrison. Last month, my father suffered a sudden medical emergency on the street, and thanks to your heroic intervention, his life was saved. He has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering well at home. He has spoken of nothing else but expressing his profound gratitude to you in person. As it happens, this weekend is his birthday. We would be honored if you would attend a small celebration at the Harrison Estate in the eastern suburbs this Sunday at three in the afternoon. We sincerely hope to see you there."
Seraphina finished reading the beautifully crafted note and paused.
The memory of that chaotic day outside the shopping mall instantly flooded her mind.
The frail old man clutching his chest, his face completely drained of color. The panicked daughter screaming for help.
So, their last name was Harrison.
Little Bean gave a gentle kick inside her belly. "Mommy, is that from the nice old man's daughter?"
"Yes," Seraphina replied silently in her mind. "The old man is out of the hospital, and he's doing much better."
"That's amazing!" Little Bean cheered happily. "Mommy, we should go! I want to see how the old man is doing."
Seraphina smiled, stroking her belly as her gaze returned to the pressed flower on the invitation.
The flower was perfectly preserved, its intricate petals still vibrant, radiating a refined charm.
Whoever took the time to craft an invitation like this was undoubtedly a thoughtful and sophisticated person.
And a deeply grateful one at that.
These were exactly the kind of people worth associating with.
After a brief moment of consideration, Seraphina decided to attend.
The elderly man had just survived a major health scare and went out of his way to handwrite an invitation. It would be incredibly rude to decline.
Besides, since she had helped save his life, it would be nice to see his recovery with her own eyes.
