"Speak."
Lucian noticed Christian Chase's hesitation and broke the silence, his voice freezing over.
He had already started the engine. He didn't have a second to waste.
"Mr. Langford, should we hold off and let the police handle this?" Christian knew his boss was uncompromising, but he had to try. "It's too dangerous. What happens to Little Bean if something happens to both of you?"
Lucian gripped the steering wheel, his jaw clenched tight. "Nothing's going to happen. I won't let anything happen to her."
With that, he slammed his foot on the gas and tore out of the driveway without a backward glance.
Christian watched the car shoot off like a bullet, his chest tight with anxiety.
"That look in his eyes..."
He let out a heavy sigh, turning back to execute Lucian's orders.
He grabbed Franklin Foster. "Frank, get every available man to sweep the roads. I don't care what vehicles you use, just get it done fast."
Frank gave a grim nod. "On it."
...
At Langford Manor, Eleanor Langford hung up the phone and asked the butler to escort her to the private chapel.
She knelt at the altar, clasping her hands together in desperate prayer. "Dear Lord, please keep them safe. They have to be okay."
She cast a worried glance toward Evie's bedroom. The curtains were drawn tight, obscuring any sign of life inside.
Eleanor had no idea that behind those closed doors, Evie was curled into a tight ball, biting her fist to muffle her violent sobs.
If Seraphina really died in an explosion, what would happen to her? Would Lucian trace it back to her?
It wasn't Seraphina's death that terrified her. It was the thought of her brother's wrath when the truth came to light.
Lucian was madly in love with Seraphina. If he ever found out Evie was responsible for her death, he would destroy her.
Trembling violently, Evie screenshotted her entire chat history with NightFall and saved it.
She didn't know if these files would end up as the evidence that sent her to prison, but she was more terrified that if the records vanished, no one would ever believe she thought it was just a sick game.
