Seraphina shifted her angle and kept sawing relentlessly.
Her mind raced, keeping track of every passing second.
It had been about seven minutes since they dumped her in the cave.
Given their pace, she had ten minutes left, max.
The man with the high-pitched voice stood up from the explosives and cast a slow glance in her direction.
He took a couple of steps toward the exit, then stopped dead in his tracks.
Looking back at his partner, he smirked. "She's a stunner. Since she's going to blow anyway, why not have some fun first?"
Ice flooded Seraphina's veins.
Dying in this cave was one thing, but she would be damned if she let these scum touch her.
She had to get out. Now.
The gruff man scoffed. "Mission comes first. Don't cause unnecessary complications."
"It'll only take a few minutes," the other argued, brushing the dirt off his pants. "It won't change a thing."
His heavy boots echoed as he walked toward her.
Closer. And closer.
Seraphina's breathing turned ragged, but she didn't stop grinding the rock against the frayed rope.
The man squatted down right in front of her, reaching out to tear at her collar.
His partner wandered over, standing a few feet away to watch.
Just as the last strand of rope snapped, Seraphina's bleeding hand shot out, grabbing a fistful of sharp gravel from the cave floor.
Her eyes snapped open, and she hurled the blinding handful of dirt and rock straight into the squatting man's face.
In a split second, she assessed her surroundings. The man closest to her was short and stocky; the one standing back was tall and built.
The short guy screamed, clutching his eyes and thrashing on the ground.
The tall guy reacted a fraction of a second later, lunging forward to grab her hair.
Using her momentum, Seraphina rolled forward, kicked off the loose ropes around her ankles, and scrambled right past the tall man's legs.
