My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 318

Melody remained silent.

"Weren't you obsessively in love with Lucian?" Howard asked out of nowhere.

Melody's fingers twitched slightly. "He's married now."

"So you decided to settle for second best and go after his younger brother?" Howard's voice spiked in volume.

"I am not settling for second best." Melody's voice steadied. "Dad, I'm with Landon because we actually connect. It has absolutely nothing to do with Lucian."

Howard stared deeply into his daughter's eyes, desperately searching for any crack in her armor.

But Melody met his gaze with unwavering confidence, refusing to flinch.

"Fine. If you think he's a solid choice, then see where it goes. But let me make one thing perfectly clear—do not let yourself be used as a pawn," Howard warned sharply.

Melody's heart gave a violent lurch, but she nodded. "I understand."

After a brief chat, Melody grabbed her purse and left the house.

The moment she stepped out of the Monroe estate and slid into her car, she let out a massive, shaky exhale.

During her father's intense interrogation, she had nearly broken character.

But she was already riding the tiger; there was no way to get off now. She had no choice but to grit her teeth and see this through to the bloody end.

Melody leaned back against the driver's seat and closed her eyes for a moment.

Her phone buzzed. It was a text from Landon.

"How did it go?"

Melody hesitated for a second before typing: "My dad didn't object."

A single word shot back instantly: "Excellent."

Right on its heels came another message: "Dinner tomorrow night? I know a fantastic new French place that just opened."

Melody thought about it for a second and replied with a simple "Okay."

Landon treated her impeccably. He was considerate, attentive, and incredibly accommodating of her moods.

Even though the shadow of another man occasionally crept into her mind, she was determined to crush it.

Melody quickly fired up the engine and sped out of the Monroe estate's gates.
