Little Bean retorted with absolute certainty, "It's not my imagination! Mommy, your ears are totally red!"
Seraphina instinctively touched her ear.
It did feel a bit hot.
Taking a deep breath, she got out of bed, firmly deciding to push the thought out of her mind.
This was a marriage of convenience.
A mutually beneficial arrangement.
She couldn't afford to overthink it.
She repeated the mantra as she washed up.
When she went down to the dining room, she was surprised to find Lucian still at home.
A cup of black coffee sat steaming in front of him.
Seraphina pressed her lips together before offering a greeting. "Morning, Lucian."
He looked up, giving a brief nod. "Morning. Sit down and eat."
Seraphina took a seat, grabbing a glass of milk and some scrambled eggs.
Suddenly, Lucian broke the silence. "Don't wait up for me in the future. Get some sleep."
Seraphina paused, then nodded. "Okay."
Secretly, she wondered if he felt she was becoming a burden to him.
Little Bean instantly jumped in to play peacemaker. "Mommy, Daddy just cares about you. He doesn't want you to be too exhausted."
Seraphina rolled her eyes internally. "...Since when do you know everything?"
"I just do," Little Bean replied smugly.
"By the way, for The Gilded Heart Gala this weekend, I'll have a styling team sent over for you. You don't need to worry about a thing," Lucian said.
"Alright," Seraphina agreed.
This arrangement was for the best. It was her first time attending a major event as Mrs. Langford, and she had been slightly anxious about embarrassing him.
"Also, if you need to go anywhere, have the driver take you," Lucian instructed.
Shortly after, he finished his coffee and headed out for the day.
Once Seraphina finished her breakfast, she planned to dive back into her documents.
