Little Bean let out a tiny yawn. 'Mom, you're so dramatic.'
"Oh, you little rascal, are you judging me? Just wait until you're older. I'll have your dad set you straight," Seraphina teased, gently booping his nose.
Susan emerged from the kitchen carrying a fresh bowl of soup, her face lighting up at the heartwarming scene.
"Mrs. Langford, you chat with him all day. Do you really think he understands you?"
"He absolutely does," Seraphina replied with unwavering confidence. "He's the smartest baby in the world."
Susan chuckled warmly, setting the bowl on the coffee table. "Drink up while it's hot. I added dates to boost your vitality."
Holding Little Bean securely in one arm, Seraphina picked up the bowl and took a sip. It was the perfect temperature.
In this very moment, her heart felt like it might burst with pure happiness.
Her postpartum recovery was going smoother than she ever could have hoped.
Little Bean was transforming right before her eyes. He had shed his wrinkled newborn look, his cheeks plumping up beautifully. His skin was incredibly luminous, and his large, dark eyes sparkled with intelligence.
Susan couldn't help but fawn over him every chance she got. "My goodness, the young heir is going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up. Those eyes, that nose—he inherited all the best features from both you and Mr. Langford!"
Finishing her soup, Seraphina laid Little Bean down in his bassinet, watching him happily entertain himself. A wave of overwhelming maternal affection washed over her.
The little guy really was getting more handsome by the day.
Just then, Susan walked over with the house phone. "Mrs. Langford, Grandma Eleanor is calling again. She wants to know if you've approved the invitation designs for Hudson's Welcome Gala. If you give the green light, she'll send them to the printers immediately."
Seraphina took the phone and scrolled through the high-resolution mockups Eleanor had texted over.
The invitations were a striking crimson with elegant gold-foil lettering announcing 'The Christening Celebration of Little Hudson Langford'. A delicate, stylized pair of baby footprints bordered the text, making it feel both regal and charming.
She quickly fired back a message. "Grandma Eleanor, they look stunning. Let's go with this design."
Eleanor replied instantly. "Wonderful! I'll have them printed at once. We'll be sending out five hundred copies to start."
Five hundred...
Seraphina stared at the number, her eye twitching slightly.
