My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 345

After the door closed, Howard sat in his chair, staring at the file in silence for a long time.

He picked up the desk phone and dialed a number.

"Old Zhang, I need you to look into a company. I'll send you the details shortly. Focus heavily on the founder's background and figure out exactly what kind of grudge he holds against Lucian."

Hanging up, Howard leaned back and closed his eyes.

This Landon Langford—he had ambition, ruthless tactics, and guts.

A man like that was a sharp blade; wielded well, he was lethal, but a single slip could result in a severed hand.

Howard still couldn't be entirely sure if this young man was worth betting everything on.

Downstairs, Melody was sitting in the living room, a book open in her hands, though she hadn't absorbed a single word.

Hearing footsteps on the stairs, she looked up to see Landon descending.

"Done talking?" she asked.

"Yeah." Landon walked over and sat across from her.

Melody glanced at him but didn't ask what the conversation entailed.

She knew better than to pry into the dealings between her father and Landon.

"My dad didn't give you a hard time, did he?" she asked casually.

"No." Landon offered a faint smile. "Mr. Monroe is a very reasonable man."

Melody nodded.

Neither of them spoke.

A quiet settled over the living room.

Looking at the woman in front of him, Landon felt a complex, indescribable flicker of emotion.

His relationship with Melody had never been pure from the start.

He had his agenda, and she had her own calculations.

But over the past month, he realized she was far smarter and much kinder than he had anticipated.

That realization occasionally stirred a fleeting pang of guilt within him.

But it was only occasional.

"There's an art exhibition next week. Want to go together?" Landon broke the silence.

Melody looked up at him. "What kind of exhibition?"

"A friend's private collection. They have a few Monet pieces."
