After dinner, Lucian and Seraphina headed upstairs to check on Little Bean.
The tiny guy was sound asleep, his cheeks flushed a rosy pink. A little trail of drool hung from the corner of his mouth, lost in whatever sweet dream he was having.
Seraphina gently wiped away the drool with a tissue.
Watching them, Lucian felt a profound warmth swell in his chest.
His wife sitting quietly by the crib, gazing lovingly at their sleeping son.
He walked over and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"What are you looking at?"
"Our son." Seraphina leaned back into his embrace. "Don't you think he's incredibly sweet when he sleeps? When he's awake, he acts like he carries the weight of the world. Not like a baby at all."
Lucian let out a low chuckle. "He gets that from his mother."
Seraphina twisted around to glare at him. "He gets it from you."
"I was never a worrier when I was a kid."
"Grandma Eleanor told me you were a little old man."
"...That's called being mature."
Seraphina couldn't hold back a laugh at his deadpan defense, her shoulders shaking against his chest.
Afraid she would wake Little Bean with her giggles, Lucian spoke up helplessly.
"Stop laughing, you're going to wake him up."
Seraphina covered her mouth, but her shoulders kept trembling.
Looking at her, Lucian's lips curved upward.
In this exact moment, he felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.
Fate had truly been kind to him.
Despite the years of exhausting labor, scheming, and betrayals he had endured for the Langford Group, the universe had somehow rewarded him with this perfect, happy home.
A considerate wife and an adorable son.
