Seraphina remained unbothered and continued speaking. "Evie, did you know that because of you, your brother hasn't slept properly in days?"
Evie flinched, instinctively turning her head back to look at Seraphina.
Seraphina pressed on. "I didn't come here to fight you over him. I came to tell you the truth. Someone is exploiting your feelings for Lucian, using you to hurt him from the shadows."
Evie's pupils shrank, and she ground her teeth. "Impossible! You're lying!"
"Then tell me, who told you that the company lost the bid because of me?"
Evie's lips trembled, her first instinct to lie.
But Seraphina's gaze pierced right through her, making it clear she already knew the answer.
"It... a friend sent it to me. She said you were with another man, that you were playing my brother for a fool..."
Evie dropped her gaze, staring down at her own hands.
She still couldn't bring herself to openly betray that person.
However, Seraphina already had the confirmation she needed.
Evie wasn't like other socialites. She rarely interacted with the outside world, so the number of friends she had could be counted on one hand.
A faint smile tugged at Seraphina's lips. "Have you ever stopped to think why Melody Monroe would go out of her way to 'help' you? Are you really blind to her feelings for your brother?"
Evie's face drained of all color.
She knew very well that Melody had been pining after Lucian for years.
If Melody successfully drove a wedge between them...
Then Melody would be the one standing next to Lucian. Evie had been so blinded by her hatred that she hadn't even considered that angle.
"You're making this up. Melody is friends with both me and my brother. She's just looking out for us," Evie gritted out.
She still refused to believe that someone as kind as Melody would use her like a pawn.
Seraphina looked at Evie and gave a knowing half-smile. "Right. Melody Monroe."
Evie froze. When it finally clicked, she exploded with rage. "Seraphina! You tricked me!"
