The family doctor arrived swiftly and examined Melody’s hand, which had just been run under cold water.
"It's nothing serious. Rinsing it immediately was the right move. Just apply this burn ointment, and it will be perfectly fine."
After applying the cream, Melody returned to her seat. "Thank you all for your concern. I'm completely fine now."
Lucian didn't even glance her way.
He stared at the soup tureen in the center of the table and instructed a maid, "Clear this dish."
The maid hurried forward to remove it.
Melody panicked. "Lucian, really, there's no need. I'm okay."
Lucian’s gaze remained fixed forward. "It burned someone. Get rid of it."
The gentle smile on Melody’s face almost fractured.
She wasn't stupid. She knew he wasn't doing it out of concern for her.
He just found the soup an eyesore.
Landon casually picked up a piece of meat with his fork before remarking, "Lucian is always so considerate. No wonder everyone in the family relies on him."
Lucian raised his eyes. "What are you trying to say?"
Landon smirked. "Just giving a compliment."
Eleanor scoffed coldly. "If you're here to eat, eat. Keep your sarcastic comments to yourself."
Landon placed the food into his bowl. "I wouldn't dare, Grandma."
Charlene quickly forced a laugh. "He just has a big mouth, Mom. Don't mind him."
Eleanor ignored her completely.
The rest of the meal proceeded in fragile peace.
Evie kept her head down, constantly checking on Melody’s bandaged hand.
Seraphina didn't speak again. She wiped Little Bean’s mouth and quietly asked Susan if they had packed enough formula.
Listening to her manage these small, domestic details, the rigid lines of Lucian’s face softened significantly.
On the other side of the table, Melody took advantage of wiping her mouth to glance down at her phone.
She slid it back onto her lap. When she looked up, her eyes locked with Landon’s.
They both looked away, perfectly nonchalant.
Halfway through dinner, Eleanor ordered the dessert served.
She took a small bite of the matcha pastry and her expression brightened. "This is excellent. Just the right amount of sweetness."
Seraphina smiled. "If you like them, Grandma Eleanor, I’ll make sure the bakery sets some aside for you next time."
