Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 5

**The Crimson Oath — Bryan Foster**

**Chapter 5**

**Addison**

In a flurry of urgency, I made my way to the park, my mind racing with Madge’s instructions. I had to find a woman clad in a striking purple suit, standing sentinel by a tree. The park was eerily quiet, its emptiness granting me a sense of ease as I scanned my surroundings.

As I drew closer, the figure before me had her back turned, and a flicker of doubt crept into my mind. Had I wandered to the wrong person? It had only been two years since I last laid eyes on Madge, yet this woman seemed so different. Madge’s hair had always been a deep, raven black.

“Is that you over there with brown hair?” I questioned silently, hoping for a sign of recognition.

“Yes, it’s me,” her voice echoed in my mind, a familiar comfort. “I had to adopt a different appearance to ensure my identity remains concealed. It’s crucial that it stays hidden.”

Finally reaching the spot where she stood, I rounded the tree and faced a young woman who appeared to be in her thirties, a stark contrast to Madge’s true age of fifty.

She hesitated, her lips pressed together, as if weighing her words carefully. This silence only heightened my impatience; I needed answers about Saga, and I needed them now.

Breaking the mental barrier, I spoke aloud, “Can you please tell me what’s going on so I can—”

“Shh,” she interrupted, raising a finger to her lips, her eyes darting around. “I’m waiting for the sound barrier to finalize.” After a moment, she turned her gaze to me, her expression serious. “Now that no one can hear us, we can talk.”

“But there’s no one else around,” I protested, my confusion deepening.

“Don’t let appearances fool you. There are eyes and ears everywhere,” she cautioned, her tone laced with urgency.

“Then tell me what’s happening,” I urged, my heart pounding with anticipation.

“I should be the one asking you that, young lady. What do you think you’re doing?” Her eyes narrowed, a stern expression crossing her face as she crossed her arms.

“I don’t understand,” I replied, bewildered.

“Yesterday, I felt Saga surging within you like never before. I sensed it from my home, and you know how far away that is.”

“What? You truly sensed her?” I felt a mix of disbelief and intrigue.

“What were you thinking, allowing that to happen?” she pressed, her voice rising slightly.

“She was just so angry that I couldn’t control her,” I admitted, my guilt creeping in.

“Do you have any idea of the destruction she could have wrought had she fully taken over? And how was she even allowed to surge when I had sealed her away completely?”

“Uhh…” My voice trailed off, the weight of her words crashing down on me. I knew that what I was about to say would only infuriate her. “I’ve been training vigorously in secret.”

“What? Why wasn’t I informed of this?”

“Because I had to be careful,” I replied defensively.

“Who else knows about your training?” she pressed, her voice sharp.

“No one,” I confessed, feeling the tension rise.

She shook her head with disappointment, a gesture that filled me with unease.

“Oh, Addison,” she sighed, her tone heavy with concern.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, anxiety creeping into my voice.

“You truly need to be cautious. Saga is your wolf; you’re not just an ordinary girl,” she explained, her eyes locking onto mine with intensity.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, bewildered.

“You’ve inherited something extraordinary from your mother’s lineage. You possess the potential to wield great magical power.”

A scoff escaped me as I surveyed the lush greenery around us. “That’s not true.”

“It is,” she insisted, her voice unwavering. “Because I sealed Saga away, your powers were suppressed and could not manifest.”

“Wait, are you serious?” My eyes widened in disbelief.

“I needed to talk to you urgently, young lady. Do you think I’m joking when so much is at stake?”

“My bad,” I muttered, lowering my gaze, embarrassment flooding my cheeks.

“Unlike the typical werewolf abilities, yours are more elemental and mystical in nature. This is all thanks to Saga. You can manipulate earth, water, air, and fire, but only to a certain extent.”

“Really?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.

“Yes, and as you grow, your powers will continue to evolve. Yesterday, when I sensed Saga surge, it became clear that keeping your powers suppressed will only become more difficult.”

“Are you saying that one day she’ll have total control?” I asked, dread pooling in my stomach.

“That’s a likely outcome if you continue down this path, and it will wreak havoc. You’ll need guidance to learn about your powers and reach your full potential. However, my seal has made your abilities unpredictable and dangerous. Without proper training, you risk harming those around you.”

Her grave tone sent a shiver down my spine, amplifying my anxiety.

“So, what do I do now?” I asked, stepping closer, desperate for clarity.

She sighed deeply, as though the weight of the world rested on her shoulders. “I know you’ve decided to enter the Warrior Selection Competition.”

My jaw dropped in shock. “Who told you that?”

“I was in your mind. How could I not know?” she replied, a hint of exasperation in her voice.

“Do you just invade people’s thoughts?” I pressed, feeling my irritation rise.

“Not exactly. I only had access to your thoughts because I can reach Saga. While I’m aware of your interest in the competition, that’s all I could glean. Why do you want to participate?”

Ruby pushed her way through the crowd, flirtatiously tucking her hair behind her ear as her eyes darted between us.

“Hey, boys,” she purred, striking a pose as she stopped in front of us.

“Are you also here to see the principal?” I asked, maintaining a blank expression.

“Not at all,” she replied with a bright smile.

“Then what do you need?” I pressed, curious.

She cleared her throat, her demeanor shifting slightly. “I’m Ruby.”

“We know who you are,” Tyler interjected, a hint of amusement in his voice.

“You do?” She looked at him, surprise etched on her face.

“We saw what happened yesterday,” I added, recalling the chaos that had unfolded.

She averted her gaze, a nervous laugh escaping her lips as she quickly changed the subject. “I know you two are new to this school, so why do you want to see Principal Murphy? Except for me, everyone fears going to his office because he’s so mean and unfriendly.”

“We don’t mind,” I said, exchanging a knowing look with Tyler.

Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as whispers of panic rippled through the crowd, announcing the approach of the principal. Students scattered in every direction, leaving Ruby standing alone.

“I’ll see you around, boys,” she said, swaying her hips exaggeratedly as she walked away, causing me to shake my head in disbelief.

As the students parted, the imposing figure of Principal Murphy emerged, his presence commanding immediate respect.

When he reached us, I clenched my jaw, noting the beads of sweat glistening on his forehead.

As soon as he unlocked the door, Tyler and I stepped inside without waiting for his invitation, shocking everyone in the vicinity.

Once Tyler closed the door, Murphy dropped to his knees, bowing before us.

“Your Majesties,” he trembled, his voice quaking.

“How dare you keep us waiting as if we exist to serve you?” I growled, my irritation boiling over.

“I apologize. Please forgive me,” he stammered, his hands clasped together in supplication.

“Next time, you’ll face severe consequences,” Tyler warned, his tone cold. “Is everything prepared?”

“Yes, just as you both requested,” he replied, his voice shaky.

Tyler and I exchanged smirks, our excitement palpable as we prepared to find our mates through the competition.

“In that case,” I paused, contemplating the mysteries that surrounded Addison. “Let the games begin.”
