simple and I loved it
“it’s beautiful”
You like it?”
Tlove it.”
I wrapped my arms around him and pressed my body to his.
“I’ve had it for 3 years and I’ll be honest, I’ve only used it when hunting”
“So I’m the first girl you’ve brought here?”
“The only girl I will ever bring her
We unpacked and I found myself yawning.
“Come on, let’s get to bed.”
The next morning, I woke to an empty bed. I crawled out of bed and found my breakfast on the
table with a note.
Hey Babe,
Eat up and get dressed. Follow the path next to the house and come find me when you are ready
My love,
Colton

I quickly ate and ran and got changed and hurried down the path. I came to a stream and there were flowers everywhere.
I looked around and didn’t see Colton at first. He was sitting on a simple bench looking at the
steam.
“Hey.” I said when I was close enough.
He kissed me. “Good Morning, How did you sleep?
“Good. Did you eat?”
“Yeah, before you woke up.”

“What’s wrong, you seem off.
“Nothing is wrong. Everything is great actually”
“Ok
We sat in silence for a short time. “It’s really beautiful here”
In a flash, he was down in front of me on one knee I know you must think I am Grazy and i guess maybe I am. I just know how I feel about you and I want you to be my wife and I want to have a family with you and, well, what I am saying is, Marie, will you marry me?”
He opened a small white box. Inside was the most amazing ring I had ever seen.
It was a large diamond in the middle with small diamonds all around it and the band was white
gold.
My hands were sweaty and I felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest. Susan’s words ran through my head and I looked right into Colton’s eyes and smiled.
“Yes,” I whispered.
“Yes?”
I nodded my head yes, I didn’t trust myself to talk. He slid the ring onto my finger and it fit perfectly.
He kissed me fiercely and pulled me to him. Our bodies pressed hard against each other.
We sat down and gazed in awe of the ring. “It was my Grandmother’s ring.”
“I love it!”
“I’m glad. I never thought I would be one to ask for this ring.”
I tilted my head waiting for him to go on.
“When my Grandmother was still alive she told me and when I found the one I wanted to spend
forever with, to use this ring to ask her.”
I wasn’t sure how to respond. So I did the only thing I could think of and straddled him and began
kissing him.
He immediately responded and his hands grabbed my hips and all I could think about was heading
back to the cabin.
“As much as I want to continue this, I have an afternoon planned for us,” he said as he pulled away.
“OK, just this one time.”
The rest of the weekend was amazing just the two of us. When Monday came, I didn’t want to go
home.
When we got home, a car I didn’t recognize was waiting in the driveway.
“Sh*t.
“Who’s car is that?”
“Abby’s parents.”
“Oh.”
We got out of the car and walked into the house to find Hunter sitting with Abby’s parents.
“Colton.” Abby’s mother said, jumping up and rushing to him.
“Hi Marilyn.”
“Colton.” Abby’s Dad nodded at Colton and he reached out and shook the man’s hand.
“Richard and Marilyn, this is my fiancé Marie.”
“Sh*t you said yes?” Hunter said surprised.
“Oh, well, that explains everything,” Marilyn said with a sneer.
“Explains what?” Colton asked, sounding irritated.
“Why you missed the birth of your first child, and why my daughter is sitting at home crying over you. Here you are with this harlot.”
“Excuse me? First, I have already told you there is no way that child is mine! Your daughter was a harlot, sleeping with half of the town. Marie and I didn’t start dating till it was long over with me and Abby. Not that I need to explain myself to you.”
He stood and walked towards the door.
“Now, Richard and Marilyn, I think it is time for you both to leave and maybe you should focus on helping your daughter find her actual baby daddy.”
They both stood and started walking toward the door. As soon as they were gone, Colton rushed to my side.
“Are you OK?”
“Yeah, I’m fine but I was just thinking… Maybe you should get the paternity test so they will leave
you alone.”
“Tell you what if, by the end of the month, if she has not found her baby daddy, I will get the test only to prove without a doubt that the baby is not mine.”
“OK.”
“I can’t believe you said yes.” Hunter said, breaking up the conversation.
“What can I say? I want to spend forever with this ran
“Have you told Mom?”
“Not yet. We just got home.”
“Hope you two are ready. She is going to start planning the moment you tell her Hunter said, smiling.
