Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 152

"Quennel, where are you going?"

Seeing Quennel's figure flash past her hospital room, Victoria felt a sudden, terrible premonition.

Quennel stopped.

He turned, his gaze on Victoria's face cold and seething with a dark fury.

Quennel was known for his gentle and kind nature; he had never looked at her like this before.

Hurt by his expression, Victoria's heart tightened.

She still didn't know what had happened. Biting her lip, she asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen? Why are you leaving in such a hurry?"

Logically, after her miscarriage, Quennel should have stayed at the hospital to be with her.

Why was he trying to leave without a word?

"What happened? Victoria, don't you already know?"

Quennel's voice was frigid, striking her like a splash of icy water.

He demanded, "Why did you lie to me about being pregnant?"

When Quennel uttered the words "lie about being pregnant," the color drained from Victoria's face.

How could this be?

How did he find out?

"There was never anything between us! Victoria, you're despicable!"

With that, Quennel turned and walked away without a second glance.

"Quennel, let me explain!"

Victoria knew that if she didn't clear this up today, it was well and truly over between them.

Who was Quennel? A golden boy like him would never tolerate being deceived.

Victoria chased after him, but Quennel didn't look back.

He walked away decisively. Just as an elevator arrived, Victoria was a step too slow.

She could only watch as the doors closed mercilessly in her face...

"Are you insane? Do you have a death wish? Don't you know you could have been killed!"

Victoria detected a hint of concern in his rebuking tone.

Her eyes red and brimming with tears, she seized the opportunity to throw her arms around his waist.

Quennel tried to push her away, but Victoria held on even tighter.

"Quennel, don't leave me, I was wrong! Forgive me this one time. I only did it because I love you so much and wanted to be with you."

"Do you know? From the moment you sponsored me and helped me escape my impoverished hometown, I was always so curious about what kind of person you were."

"Then, when I came to Veridian and saw you for the first time, I realized I had fallen deeply in love with you."

"Seeing our names together on the sponsorship list, I would fantasize that it was our marriage certificate."

"But I knew I wasn't good enough for you. Standing next to you, I felt so inadequate."

"I became friends with Stephanie just to get a glimpse of you. In college, every time you came to the lab to pick her up, I would hide in the shadows, watching you two, imagining it was me by your side."

"So I studied hard to become better, dressed up to become more beautiful, all so I could stand beside you openly and proudly."
