Patricia and Elva froze in unison.
The father and son had always had a strained relationship. Was York actually defending Jonathan? Especially after Jonathan had just flipped the dining table only minutes ago.
York wasn’t angry? He was praising him for it?
What… what was going on here?
Only Cora, looking at the ruined feast, sighed with regret.
She turned to the butler. “I’m starving. Have them make me a plate of pasta to tide me over.”
The butler nodded and immediately relayed the order. The maids began clearing the wreckage from the table.
York was no fool. A man who had built an empire as vast as Ironhold Investment Group from scratch was not about to be led by the nose by a woman.
It was just that Patricia’s biased whispers last night had caught him at a bad moment, and he had been genuinely furious.
But Stephanie’s words had reminded him of the bigger picture. The Gonzalez and Vasquez families were longtime business rivals. It made no sense for him to trust an outsider and create a rift within his own family.
That would only make the Gonzalezes happy.
Besides, as Stephanie had pointed out, her engagement to Quennel was over. If there were really something between them, she wouldn't have broken it off to marry into the Vasquez family.
Stephanie… she had an innocent look and didn't look like a scheming person at all.
York declared, “From now on, anyone who dares to bring up Stephanie and Quennel will get out of this house! When you compare the Vasquez family and the Gonzalez family, even an idiot knows which side to choose! Besides, in what way is my son inferior to Ternence’s boy?”
His declaration stunned even Cora.
Did the sun rise in the west today? Was York actually defending Jonathan?
Now, Ternence had stumbled badly because of Quennel, which brought York a deep sense of satisfaction.
The two families had been at odds for years due to business conflicts, and York had always been in a quiet competition with Ternence since their youth.
Now Jonathan had married Stephanie, causing Quennel to have a public meltdown and say many reckless things, which was a shame to Ternence.
Without eating, York went upstairs to admire his art collection, humming a tune as he went.
His behavior left Patricia and Elva utterly dumbfounded.
This was far too strange. Jonathan had swaggered into the estate, wreaked havoc, and walked away without any punishment from York. York hadn't even uttered a single word of reprimand…
Back in her room, Elva faced her own son.
“You saw what happened in the living room, didn’t you? I’m afraid things are about to change in the Vasquez family. Who would have thought that by marrying that woman, Jonathan would win York’s favor? I fear there will be even less of a place for us in this house from now on!”
