“Quennel broke up with me! Stephanie, we broke up! This is all your fault!”
Vivian was calling from the back of a police car.
The officer had been about to confiscate her phone, telling her to notify her family of her arrest, but in her rage, Vivian had dialed Stephanie instead.
Hearing her hysteria, Stephanie sighed. Why did everything always come back to her? “I wasn't the one who called the police.”
Vivian didn't believe her. “You’re still denying it? Who else could it have been? You just wait! My dad and my brother will bail me out soon. You’re dead, Stephanie! I’m not done with you! And that mother of yours! I’ll make sure she has a miserable life here!”
Before Vivian could finish her threats, the officer took the phone away.
She was nothing more than a spoiled brat.
But her last words left Stephanie feeling uneasy.
It had been almost two months since Susan’s birthday, and the mother and daughter hadn't spoken.
Before, even if they didn't meet, Susan would text her every few days to ask how she was doing.
Perhaps Susan felt guilty about the way Stephanie had been treated by the Yates family at the birthday party and couldn't bring herself to reach out.
Or perhaps… after Jonathan publicly terminated all business with the Yates family, causing their stock to plummet, Susan was caught in the middle and found it too difficult to contact her.
Stephanie suddenly missed her mother.
She cherished her mother dearly, yet Vivian spoke of her with such disregard.
Jonathan was working late at the office tonight, and Stephanie didn't feel like cooking for one. She decided to call Cecilia and ask her to grab a casual dinner out.
At the restaurant, Cecilia wore a mischievous smile. “Stephanie, you still haven’t answered my question.”
Even though they were best friends, Stephanie still felt a little embarrassed discussing such topics.
But Cecilia was naturally outspoken, and now, slightly buzzed, she had no filter. She cupped her cheeks in a classic fangirl pose.
“We’re best friends! You got to enjoy the feast, so at least give me the juicy details! Just tell me the truth.”
Stephanie blushed. “When we got home, he took my hand and placed it on his abs, and made me feel them over and over.”
“Ahhhh!”
Just imagining the scene made Cecilia squeal with excitement. “Jonathan is such a flirt! Stephanie, move aside and let me have a feel too!”
Stephanie tapped Cecilia on the forehead. “In your dreams,” she said instinctively. “He's mine.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Stephanie herself froze.
