After Pyreborn, he had seen his true form–magnificent and imposing, radiant with glory. No matter how he thought about it, it had nothing to do with being funny. For her to be laughing like this, there had to be something else going on.
Lucien’s hand slid to her waist. “If you don’t tell me, I’ll keep tickling you.”
Emma was terrified of being tickled.
“I’ll tell you…” She surrendered at once. “I just suddenly thought about what you looked like when you were still Coalball.”
Lucien was speechless.
The moment she said the word Coalball, a flicker of embarrassment flashed across his handsome face.
“Emma.” He looked at her and said, pretending to be annoyed, “Let’s never bring this up again, okay?”
It was way too humiliating.
“Why not?” Emma knew he wasn’t truly angry. She smiled at him. “I think you were really cute back then.”
She meant it. She genuinely thought Lucien had been adorable at the time, though it indeed had been a little tragic.
Lucien let out a helpless sigh. “I was ugly beyond belief. I didn’t even dare tell you who I was, and you still thought I was cute?”
Did Emma have some unconventional taste?
“I just think it’s cute.” Emma lifted her arms and wrapped them around his neck, planting a loud kiss on his cheek. Then she leaned close to his ear and whispered so softly only the two of them could hear, “Can you still turn back into Coalball?”
“What are you planning?” Lucien’s eyes turned alert in an instant.
Emma blinked, looking innocent and harmless. “What could I be planning? I just want to see it again. That’s all.”
“No.” Lucien refused without hesitation. “I can’t change back.”
“I don’t believe you.” From his reaction alone, Emma knew he was lying.
Holding onto him, she unleashed her ultimate weapon. Her voice turned soft and sweet as she began to coax him. “Lucien, just change back and let me look. Just one look. I really want to see it. Lucien, just one look. I really, really want to see.”
Her voice was like it had been dipped in honey, syrupy sweet, slipping straight into Lucien’s heart.
His body stiffened at once. He was utterly defenseless against Emma when she acted cute like this. Every

time she spoke in that soft, gentle tone, all his principles flew straight out the window.
“Just one look?” His voice carried a trace of inner struggle, and his resolve was already wavering.

“Yes, yes! Just one look!” Seeing hope, Emma nodded eagerly. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at him, full of anticipation.
Seeing how happy and excited she was, Lucien didn’t have the heart to disappoint her. “All right.”
He nodded as if resigning himself to fate, his voice filled with indulgent affection.
“You’re not allowed to laugh at me,” he added uneasily.
That dark chapter was the only blemish in his otherwise glorious life.
“I won’t laugh, I won’t! I swear!” Emma raised her hand solemnly.”
She really just thought it was cute. There was absolutely no mockery involved.
Lucien looked at her deeply. In the next instant, he closed his eyes.
A soft golden flame appeared out of nowhere, enveloping his entire form.
The flames weren’t hot at all. Instead, they carried a gentle warmth.
When the light faded, the tall, handsome man was gone.
In his place on the couch sat a pitch–black, round little bird–chubby and fluffy.
“Coalball!” Emma beamed at the familiar little black bird, smiling brighter than ever.
Lucien tilted his head up and looked at her helplessly. “All right, you’ve seen it. Can I change back now?”
He had barely finished speaking when, before Emma could answer, there was a creak.
The door was suddenly pushed open.
Calum’s tall figure appeared in the doorway. “Emy…”
Emma turned to him. “Calum, why are you here? Do you need something?”
Calum walked over and was about to sit beside Emma when his gaze suddenly landed on the black lump on the couch. “What the hell is that?”
He stared at the dark little creature and poked it twice. “Why is it so dark? It’s really ugly.”
