"You do get me," Noelle said, smiling as she got into the car. "Let's go."
It was true that she no longer wanted to stay at the Liddell residence. As the car pulled away, Blake stood by the window and watched silently. But he ended up saying nothing.
Lucas walked over. "I didn't expect Noelle to be so resistant toward us."
"We've done so much to hurt her that she has every right to hate us for a lifetime. I guess nothing else matters as long as she's happy," Blake replied.
Then, he turned to give Lucas a serious look and continued, "But we have to keep an eye on Carl. I don't know what he's planning, but if anything he does might hurt her, we have to stop it."
Lucas nodded. "Got it."
…
As Noelle left the Liddell residence with Cedric, she glanced at the time and said, "I want to stop by the mall to get your grandma and your mom some New Year gifts. It wouldn't feel right to show up empty-handed."
Cedric looked at her and nodded. "Alright."
He drove to the largest mall and held Noelle's hand as they walked inside. "For my mom, let's get her a silk scarf. Some tea would do for Grandma; she loves good tea."
Cedric had everything sorted out for Noelle before she could even ask. The silk scarf was a custom piece, while the tea leaves were of the finest quality.
Seeing how quickly he arranged everything, Noelle gave him a half-amused, half-exasperated look. "You had this all planned, didn't you?"
"Yeah, you don't have to worry about all this trivial stuff."
However, Noelle stepped forward and held his hand. "Thanks, but let me pay for them."
"Alright. I won't fight you on this one." He knew she had her pride, so he simply stepped aside and didn't insist.
Once she paid, Cedric took the shopping bags from her. She looped her arm through his and playfully said, "Oh, I have such a thoughtful boyfriend who plans everything in advance!"
The mood instantly grew tense as Noelle turned toward the women, feeling the clear hostility.
The woman looked at Noelle and continued, "Oh, don't take it the wrong way, Ms. Liddell. I'm just saying it for your own good, so you don't get cheated and end up giving Mrs. Greene Senior some fake tea leaves."
Cedric walked straight over and announced, "This is not fake tea."
"I understand you want to defend your girlfriend, Ced, but you're not doing her any favors. The Greene family is a renowned family, and if word gets out that she gave fake tea leaves, it'll just embarrass us all."
She took a sip of her tea, looking quite pleased with herself.
But Cedric snatched her cup and slammed it onto the table. "If your ears aren't working, and you can't understand what I'm saying, maybe you should get them checked at the hospital. Lincoln, see her out."
Lincoln stepped forward and gestured toward the door. "This way, please."
Fuming, the woman got up and turned to Anastasia. "Mrs. Greene Senior, is this how the Greenes treat their relatives?"
