Noelle turned around and saw Cedric dressed in a deep navy blue suit with all the buttons fastened. His sleeves were rolled up slightly, revealing an expensive wristwatch.
She smiled and said, "I've never seen you all dressed up like this before."
Cedric turned to her and replied, "What do you mean by all dressed up? This is just what I wear to work. Besides, why would I even need to dress up?"
She looked at his sharp and handsome side profile and said, "True. With a face like yours, I bet you could be a celebrity if you wanted to."
He stared straight at her and asked, "Do you think I could get myself a girlfriend with it?"
Noelle quickly avoided his gaze and changed the subject. "What do you plan to do with the situation with Liddell Corporation?"
Cedric replied, "It wouldn't take much effort to crush them, but you said that you wanted to keep them around, didn't you? Mrs. Cantrell arranged for dinner with me tonight through my mother. It is likely that she wants to discuss this matter.
"I'll blame everything on you, and Donovan will most likely be looking for you afterward."
"Got it. I'll head back to the Liddell residence tonight," she replied.
She could see the concern in his eyes as she continued, "I'm just going back to enjoy the show. The final decision is up to me, after all. I'm just going back to scare and intimidate them a little.
"We should put up with the act until the very end. We'll fan the flames a little longer and let them enjoy their moment while they still can."
The higher they climbed, the harder they would fall.
Cedric's lips curled into a smile. "Alright. You know, Donovan should be worshipping you by now if he isn't stupid."
"I should thank you for that, Mr. Greene."
He turned his body slightly and stared at her with a stern look. "You've thanked me twice now. Why don't you think about how to repay me?"
Noelle found his gaze a little overwhelming. "I can treat you to lunch today."
"I was the one who invited you for lunch today. You'll owe me a meal next time. Don't forget about it."
She nodded. "Alright, I won't forget about it."
"Don't you understand that spoiling a child is the same as harming them? It's just an ankle monitor now, but next time, she might be heading straight into prison," Noelle replied.
Ruth raised her hand to try and slap Noelle, but Laura stopped her. Laura then looked at Noelle and said, "Ms. Liddell, given how confident you are now, I only hope that you will never find yourself begging the Merlock family for help in the future."
Just then, Cedric walked over and glanced at both Laura and Ruth. "Don't worry, that day will never come. Noelle would never, ever have to beg you for help. Let's go."
Laura's face turned deathly pale as she started to cry. She asked, "Cedric, is she really that much better?"
Her voice was trembling. She could not stomach how Cedric had protected Noelle. To her, it felt even worse than dying.
Cedric did not look back even once as he led Noelle out of the restaurant.
Ruth held onto Laura and said, "Don't be sad, Laura. The two of them will never be together."
Tears welled up in Laura's eyes as she replied, "You're just lying to me, Mom."
"I'm not! The Greene family was the one who caused the death of Noelle's parents."
