Chapter 158 A Drink She Did Not Expect
Amelia smiled and praised him for being thoughtful.
Not long after, Hayden carefully walked over with a glass cup in both hands.
Inside was more than half a cup of dark brown liquid, bubbling lightly. It looked just like cold cola.
“Aunt Amelia, here,” he said proudly and handed it to her.
Amelia was thirsty. She didn’t think much and drank it all in one go.

The moment the liquid went down, a sharp burning spread from her stomach and rushed up to her nose.
This wasn’t cola.
The familiar smell of alcohol hit her at once. Amelia’s face changed.
She put the glass down, stared at the little liquid left at the bottom, and frowned at Hayden.
“Hayden, why does this cola smell like alcohol?”
Hayden shook his head in confusion, his big eyes full of innocence. “I don’t know. I saw the bottle on the bar. Daddy Mason drank it last night. I thought it was a new drink.”
Amelia’s heart sank. She stood up and walked quickly to the bar by the open kitchen.
On the counter sat an empty bottle of Louis XIII.
This wasn’t cola at all. It was strong brandy.
The alcohol hit fast.
Amelia staggered back to the living room. Her head felt light, and a heavy sleepiness washed over her. She really wanted to sleep.
Hayden noticed her pale face.
He tugged at her clothes nervously. “Aunt Amelia, did I do something wrong?”
“No,” she said softly, forcing a comforting smile. “I just walked all day. I’m tired. I feel sleepy.”
After those words, she couldn’t hold on anymore. She collapsed onto the soft couch and fell asleep.
“Aunt Amelia? Aunt…”
Hayden didn’t know she was drunk. He thought she was just very tired.
He looked at her sleeping figure, thought for a moment then went to his room and brought out a cashmere blanket.
Like an adult, he gently covered Amelia with it.
Up in the study, Mason knew nothing about what had happened downstairs. He was focused on a video meeting with overseas partners.

Half an hour later, the meeting ended.
Mason rubbed his aching brow. The sharp look of a businessman hadn’t yet faded from his face.
On the screen, the last manager said goodbye politely. Mason gave a brief nod and cut the call.

He leaned back in his leather chair, closed his eyes for a moment, then stood up and left the study.
The TV was still on downstairs.
Hayden sat cross–legged on the carpet, staring at the screen.
But the person who should have been with him was nowhere to be seen.
“Hayden,” Mason said more gently, “where is Amelia?”
Hayden turned his head and pointed at the couch. “Aunt Amelia is asleep.”
Mason looked over and saw Amelia curled up at the other end of the couch. A thin cashmere blanket covered her. Only her dark hair and part of her pale face showed.
She looked deeply asleep, breathing evenly.
Mason walked over. As he got closer, a faint smell of alcohol reached him.
He stopped at once.
He bent down and leaned closer. The scent of alcohol was clear now.
His brows rose sharply.
“Hayden, what happened?”
Hayden was startled by his serious tone. He stood up nervously and spoke in a small voice, “Aunt Amelia said she was tired from walking all day. Then she drank a cup of water and fell asleep.”
“Water?” Mason did not believe it. “What water?”
Hayden sensed something was wrong. He pressed his lips together and pointed toward the bar. There, an empty crystal bottle lay quietly.
“It was from that bottle. The one you drank from last night, Daddy Mason.”
Mason followed his finger.
Last night, he had opened the bottle and only had a little, then left it on the bar. He never thought someone would treat it like a drink.
He took a deep breath and explained patiently to Hayden, “Remember this, Hayden. That’s not water. That’s alcohol.”
Hayden nodded slowly, still unsure, his eyes full of guil
Mason didn’t scold him.
The air conditioning was on. Sleeping on the couch, even with a blanket, could still make someone sick.

Mason bent down and lifted Amelia into his arms.
At that moment, Amelia woke
The alcohol was strong, but her tolerance wasn’t that low. One glass wasn’t enough to knock her out completely.
