Ethan’s face turned ashen.

What scared him wasn’t the truth itself–he was afraid that this scandal would turn him and the entire Rowe family into a laughingstock among the upper class.
“Amelia!” he lowered his voice, the warning clear. “Don’t make a scene! If there’s a problem, we can talk it out in private. There’s no need to blow things up.”
“Handle it privately?”
Mason, who hadn’t spoken until now, slowly set the peeled apple onto a plate.
“Amelia, let’s call the police.”
He spoke calmly, but his eyes locked straight onto Ethan.
From the moment Ethan walked in, he had been quietly taking Hannah and Isla’s side–even going so far as to question his own wife. Mason’s eyes held nothing but clear disappointment and contempt.
“Ethan, if you’re so sure they didn’t do it…”
Mason’s voice grew colder. “Then once Amelia’s stable, I’ll take her to my place to recover until she’s well.”
“That’s out of the question!” Ethan shot back, barely hesitating.
Let Amelia stay at Mason’s house?
As Amelia’s husband, that would just be humiliating for him.
Mason watched his reaction and couldn’t help but sneer. “Why not? She stayed at your house and ended up falling down the stairs and breaking her leg. You’re her husband, but you can’t even figure out how she got hurt. How could I possibly trust you to take care of her while she heals?”
Every word hit home, leaving Ethan speechless.
Mason understood everything. If they were acting this boldly, they had probably already erased every shred of evidence.
Counting on the police to find proof in a short time was almost impossible.
But that didn’t matter.

“Ethan, I’ll give you a week.
“If the police can’t get to the bottom of it, then you’ll have to figure it out yourself.
“If you still can’t find out the truth, or if you do and try to cover for them, then fine.”
Mason leaned in slightly, the pressure radiating off him. “Then I’ll handle it my own way. By then, don’t blame me for being harsh.”
He straightened up and looked down at the three of them.
“After all, the Everetts are known for protecting our own.
“I couldn’t care less about the so–called truth.
“If Amelia says that kid pushed her, then that’s how it is.”
Hannah was so rattled by Mason’s threat that her heart skipped a beat, her face going pale.
This kind of fear was nothing like the careful scheming game she played with Ethan.
Ethan might hesitate out of guilt or pride, but Mason–his eyes showed he absolutely meant what he said.
Yet after the wave of terror, jealousy began to well up inside her.
Why?
Why does a useless woman like Amelia get Ethan as a husband and still have a man like Mason backing her up?
Why does Mason stand up for her, without even asking what really happened?
What about me?
All I can do is cling to a man, never daring to make a wrong move. I am always treading carefully, even planning how and when to cry.
This is just so unfair!
The sting of jealousy overpowered her fear. Hannah bit her lip and, fighting the pressure Mason gave off, pressed on with her act.
“Mr. Everett… we know you have power, but you can’t just ignore what’s right…” she said in a trembling voice, “There’s no proof it was Isla, and you’d take Ms. Harlow’s word alone to blame us. You’re… you’re pushing us to the brink!”

Mason’s sharp eyes fixed on Hannah, making her skin crawl. It felt like all her petty schemes were exposed under that gaze.
“You’d better pray,” Mason said slowly, his voice like ice, “that there isn’t any
