Chapter 196 Warning
Mason looked at Amelia’s pale face, his expression darkening.
“If you really cared, why does she look like this?”
Clara’s smile froze.

“W–Well…” Her eyes darted around, scrambling for an excuse. “Her wound still hurts. She’s a delicate girl. Of course she’s upset. She just argued with her dad a bit. Kids are like that. It passes after a while.”
Trying to make it more believable, she leaned closer to the bed, turning away from Mason. Hidden under the blanket, she grabbed Amelia’s hand and dug her nails into it.
The sting made Amelia flinch.
She instinctively tried to pull away, but Clara held it tightly, forcing her to go along with the act.
Mason noticed the tiny tremor in her body.
His brows furrowed, stormy eyes narrowing.
He ignored Clara’s chatter and fixed his gaze on Amelia. Slowly, his words came out, flat and steady.
“Amelia, did they just try to hit you?”
Clara dug her nails in harder, silently warning Amelia.
At that moment, Amelia felt exhausted.
She didn’t want to fake it anymore.
She didn’t want to endure it.
Under everyone’s tense gaze, she slowly pulled her hand free from Clara’s grip.
Then she nodded and said, “Yes.”
Kennedy and Clara went pale instantly.
Mason smiled, calm and deliberate.
“Good. Perfect timing. I’ve been meaning to settle things for how you kicked Amelia out back then. And after the Everetts took her in, how did you bring her back only to treat her badly

again? Maybe it’s time we sort that out.

“Do you want to do it here, or should I stop by Harlow Group another day for a proper chat?”
Kennedy went ashen. He knew Mason wasn’t joking.
With Mason’s current power and influence, wiping out Harlow Group would be as easy as snapping his fingers.
“No … no need. Don’t joke like that.” Kennedy had completely lost the last bit of dignity he had left. Cold sweat dripped down his temples.
He shot a glare at his helpless, troublemaking wife, then grabbed her and rushed toward the door.
“We just came to check on her. We’re leaving now. We won’t disturb you—”
Clara tried to argue, but Kennedy held her tight. All she could do was throw Amelia a look full of resentment, like saying, “Just wait and see.”
Eventually, the ward fell silent.
Mason shut the door behind them.
Without a word, he strode directly to the bed.
His presence carried a sharp, intense aura that grew stronger as he approached.
Amelia instinctively hid the hand that had been pinched red behind her back.
But Mason stopped at her side and held out his hand.
She was stunned, pretending not to understand.
“Hand,” he said simply, without adding anything else.
Amelia bit her lip and met his gaze stubbornly, refusing to move.
In the next instant, Mason didn’t give her a chance to refuse.
He leaned slightly, reached behind her smoothly, and took her clenched fist.
His large, warm hand, rough with calluses, easily wrapped around her small, cold hand.
He didn’t squeeze, but she couldn’t pull away.
He opened her palm and saw the deep, crescent–shaped nail marks on her pale skin.
