Chapter 210 Matching Pair of Disasters
The next second, her face twisted into a mask of misery.

The bitter char on the skin, the blandness that hadn’t absorbed any seasoning inside, and the mushy texture that had lost every bit of bite from being grilled over and over…
The bizarre flavors detonated on her tongue with a destructive power that was honestly no weaker than the undercooked pasta Mason had made years ago.
Turns out, when it came to cooking, she and he were truly a matching pair of disasters.
Just as Amelia was being tortured by her own culinary nightmare to the point her features nearly rearranged themselves, Mason came back.
He was holding a small tube of burn ointment, and the moment he reached her, he caught sight of Amelia’s indescribable expression.
He paused, his gaze dropping to the tragic plate of chicken wings by her hand. One brow lifted almost imperceptibly, like he instantly understood everything.
“Pfft.”
A soft laugh slipped from his throat.
It vanished in an instant, but Amelia still caught it perfectly.
Amelia snapped her head up and glared at him, embarrassed and annoyed all at once.
He was actually laughing at her!
But Mason had already gone back to looking perfectly composed.
He walked straight up to her, his gaze landing on the slightly reddened back of her hand. “Hold out your hand.”
Just then, Miles–who’d been standing guard nearby–stepped in at the perfect moment, respectfully taking the tongs from Amelia’s hand with a smile. “Ms. Harlow, leave the rest to me. You should rest.”
It was like a miracle dropped from the sky. Amelia felt instantly saved.
She instinctively hid her injured hand behind her back, avoiding Mason’s gaze as she stubbornly said, “No need. It’s such a tiny burn–it’ll be fine in a bit.”
She didn’t want any more physical contact with him.

That accidental kiss, and his ambiguous teasing, had already turned her heart into a tangled.
mess.
Every time he got close, it was like tossing a boulder into the already–tilted lake of her heart- leaving her nowhere to hide.
But Mason clearly wasn’t giving her the option to refuse.
He leaned down directly, ignoring her attempts to dodge, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her hand in front of him with an irresistible force.
Amelia’s heart jolted. Her whole body went rigid, and when she instinctively tried to pull away, he held her firmly–so she couldn’t move at all.
“Don’t move.” His voice was low and commanding, edged with authority.
Then, he unscrewed the cap, squeezed a bit of clear ointment onto his fingertip, lowered his lashes, and carefully applied it to her reddened skin.
The cool, soothing touch instantly eased the burning sting–so comfortable that Amelia almost sighed out loud.
Forced to keep her head lowered, Amelia could only see his sharply defined jaw. He was so close–close enough that she could clearly smell that clean scent on him, mixed with sunshine.
When he finally finished, Amelia yanked her hand back like she was escaping a wild animal. “Okay, you you can carry me over to the tent, then go play with Hayden.”
…
She needed some space–somewhere alone–to calm the heart that had completely slipped out of her control.
Mason gave her a deep look but didn’t say anything else. He simply picked her up as requested and placed her steadily onto the soft blanket inside the semi–open tent not far away.
“Aunt Amelia, you’re not playing with us?” Hayden ran over, hugging a brand–new soccer ball, his little face full of excitement–until he noticed her leg, and a hint of disappointment appeared.
Amelia leaned against a soft pillow, waved him off gently, and smiled. “My leg’s not convenient, so I won’t play with you guys. Watching you play is the same.”
“Okay!” Hayden nodded obediently. “Daddy Mason, let’s go kick the ball over there!”
Mason murmured, “Mm,” and led Hayden toward the wider stretch of lawn not far away.
The afternoon sun was warm but not harsh, washing the entire estate in a gentle golden glow.
