Chapter 219 Spent the Night Together
Boom.
Amelia’s temperature spiked, her face burning so hot it felt like it could drip blood.
This time, she truly didn’t dare move an inch.

She was afraid that if she resisted even once more, this man–who always did exactly what he said–would really do something she couldn’t bear.
The room fell back into dead silence.
Only the sound of their mingled breathing remained.
Amelia was like a statue, allowing herself to be held in his arms.
Strangely, once she gave up resisting, the fear of thunder lodged in her chest really did seem to be smoothed away by an invisible hand.
Lightning still flashed, and thunder still roared outside, but the sounds felt distant and unreal, as if muffled behind a thick barrier.
It was as if she’d returned to those stormy nights at the Everett residence years ago.
There was always someone who chased away the darkness with family–like warmth.
But… this position was still far too intimate.
She could clearly feel his chest rise and fall, smell his clean scent, even imagine the look on his face right behind her.
Amelia didn’t dare guess what Mason’s intentions were.
Was it truly to comfort her, or … just a cruel whim?
She couldn’t figure it out–and didn’t dare try.
In this unbearably passive, agonizing situation, she chose the most ostrich–like solution.
Pretend to sleep.
She gradually slowed her breathing, mimicking the rhythm of sleep.
Eyes shut tight, she counted the seconds, hoping he’d believe it soon and leave.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Mason naturally noticed the subtle movements of the woman in his arms.
He let out a helpless sigh in the dark.
Then, he drew her closer into his embrace.

He murmured in her ear, “You really are timid.
“If you turned around and held me, it would work even better.”
A storm of waves surged through Amelia’s heart as she pretended to sleep.
Her heart instantly lost control, racing wildly.
She used every ounce of strength to keep from crying out or moving.
Mason held her quietly after that, saying nothing more.

And in that extreme tension, Amelia actually drifted off under the weight of physical and mental exhaustion.
Meanwhile, Mason had no sign of sleepiness.
Nights like this were always difficult for him.
Lowering his gaze, he watched the peaceful sleeping face in his arms by the faint light of occasional lightning.
She looked especially well–behaved asleep, her slightly pouting lips like a silent accusation.
He had thought Amelia would never respond to him, even a little, the way he hoped.
But just as he thought that, something unexpected happened.
The sleeping woman seemed uncomfortable, letting out a soft, drowsy hum.
Then, she suddenly moved.
Unconsciously, she turned halfway–from facing away to facing him on her side.
Next, as if searching for something to rely on, her soft arm lifted and hooked naturally around his neck.
Her warm little face nuzzled into the hollow of his neck, found a comfortable spot, and settled into sleep.
This time, Mason was the one who froze.
The next morning, Amelia was yanked out of sleep by a rapid ringtone.
The sound was piercing in the overly quiet bedroom.
Amelia frowned irritably, her mind still steeped in the long–lost comfort of warmth and peace.
The thunder and fear of last night felt like a past life; she only remembered sleeping well, her body warm, her heart no longer adrift.
She reluctantly opened her sleepy eyes, her vision still hazy with drowsiness.
But when her focus sharpened, and she saw the face right beside her pillow, Amelia’s breath–and heartbeat -stopped instantly.

It was Mason’s flawlessly handsome face..
He was asleep.

The usual cool detachment was gone, as was the dangerous teasing from the night before.
In sleep, his features were relaxed, his sharp lips softened.
Amelia’s mind completely crashed.
Memories of last night surged in like a tide.
So, she had actually slept holding Mason all night!
Panic and shame drowned her instantly, blood rushing to her face.
And that damn ringtone kept ringing relentlessly.
Amelia panicked, her heart pounding as if it would leap out of her throat.
She was afraid the ringing would wake Mason!

She couldn’t imagine what it would look like when Mason opened his eyes and saw her clinging to him like an octopus.
