Chapter 220 The Irritating Ethan
Absolutely not!
Amelia fumbled blindly across the nightstand, trying to grab her phone and hang up immediately.
But the more flustered she became, the more things went wrong.

Her trembling fingers tapped wildly on the cold screen–somehow landing hard on the green answer button.
The call connected.
The next second, Ethan’s voice rang clearly from the speaker.
“Amelia? Why did it take you so long to answer?
“There was a thunderstorm in Eldoria last night—are you okay?”
Amelia was just about to snap, None of your business, when she caught sight of the man beside her—his eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Mason… is about to wake up.
The realization struck Amelia like lightning.
Acting on pure instinct, she clapped a hand over Mason’s mouth.
At that exact moment, Mason opened his eyes.
Irritation at being disturbed flashed in his eyes–then, when he took in Amelia’s panicked face and the warm softness covering his mouth, his gaze turned deep and complicated.
Amelia felt her scalp prickle under his stare, but she didn’t dare let go.
She was terrified that if he made a sound, Ethan would hear it–and that would be a disaster she couldn’t handle.
She could only plead with her eyes–don’t say anything!
Then, she cleared her throat and replied into the phone, “I’m fine. Everything’s normal.
“I’m about to take my medication. Don’t bother me.”
She tried to hang up immediately, desperate to end the nerve–racking call.
But Ethan clearly lacked any sense of timing. Instead, his tone turned clingy and soft.
“Really? That’s good, then.
“Are you feeling better?
“I’m on a business trip right now. Once I wrap things up, I’ll head back. When I’m back, I’ll have plenty of

time to spend with you.”
As if she cared.
Amelia rolled her eyes hard in her head.
Finishe
He was always like this–arrogantly arranging everything, assuming she’d wait forever for him to deign to
return.
She couldn’t be bothered to argue and replied coolly, “No need.”
Then, she hung up without hesitation.
The world finally fell silent.
The air was thick with inescapable awkwardness.
Amelia’s guilt peaked.
She felt the lips beneath her palm move slightly–as if protesting in silence.
She snapped out of it and yanked her hand back like she’d been burned.
The warmth and softness of his lips lingered on her fingertips.
She didn’t dare look at Mason’s eyes, fixing her gaze on the rumpled blanket as she spoke in a whispered voice, “You … why are you still here?”
She regretted the question the moment it left her mouth.
It sounded heartlessly accusatory.
The mattress shifted slightly as Mason sat up.
Morning light slipped through the curtains, casting a long band of light across him.
He casually straightened his wrinkled shirt, completely unhurried.
Amelia’s gaze was drawn to him against her will.
From her reclined angle, she could see his collar slightly open, his defined collarbones half–revealed.
When he raised a hand to fix his collar, the hem of his shirt lifted, revealing a strip of taut skin at his waist.
The defined lines rose and fell with his breathing–quietly powerful, undeniably easy on the eyes.
If she weren’t dying of embarrassment herself, Amelia might’ve even whistled.
She looked away awkwardly, her face burning even hotter.
“About last night… thank you for helping me.” She tried to ease the tension, but her voice stayed stiff. “But…”
She wanted to say that now it was morning, and being alone together wasn’t appropriate.

But Mason spoke first, his tone lazy.

“I’m human, too. I need rest.” His voice was still husky from sleep, dangerously enticing. “And Amelia–you can’t keep using me and tossing me aside.”
Using him… and tossing him aside?
Amelia jerked her head up, meeting his eyes–amused, unreadable.
“I… I’ve used you before?” she stammered–then realized what he meant.
The word use was far too broad–especially after such an intimate morning.
Her face went completely red.
Seeing her about to combust from embarrassment, Mason replied vaguely, “Probably.
“If you don’t remember, I can’t recall either.”
Amelia didn’t dare continue the topic, afraid he’d say something even more outrageous.
She forced a change of subject, asking something she’d been wondering about.
“When you came back last night, with thunder that loud–wasn’t Hayden scared?”
