Chapter 221 Disgusting
Mason calmly shook his head. “No.

“I had professional soundproofing done in the rooms at the villa over there. No matter how loud it gets outside, not much carries in.”
He paused, his gaze landing on Amelia, and added flatly,
“Besides, Hayden’s got a lot more courage than you.”
Amelia was a little embarrassed by that and muttered under her breath, “Not everyone’s brave…”
Mason didn’t respond.
He threw off the covers and stood–long, straight legs landing on the carpet.
He went straight back to his own room.
The door clicked shut softly.
Amelia lay alone on the messy bed, the other side still holding the warmth he’d left behind.
Everything reminded her that what had happened wasn’t some ridiculous dream.
Amelia stared at the ceiling, mind in a tangled mess.
Every image, every word ricocheted through her head like runaway marbles.
She lifted her hand and lightly touched her lips, as if the warm softness from covering his mouth that morning still lingered there.
Her cheeks began to heat up again–pathetically.
She and Mason … what was this, exactly?
Irritated, Amelia raked a hand through her hair, threw off the covers, and got out of bed.
Right as she was spiraling, her phone lit up with a message from Lily.
Amelia picked it up casually, thinking it was a routine check–in–until she opened the chat and froze at the image Lily had sent.
It was a screenshot of an Instagram story post.
It was posted by Hannah.
The caption was simple–just one line: “Even though the thunder was loud, I wasn’t afraid at all.”
Beneath it was a photo.
In it, Isla was holding a phone, her little face bright with a safe, happy smile, clearly absorbed in a video call with someone

The person on the screen was a bit blurry–you couldn’t make out his full features, only a sharp jawline and a watch on his wrist.
Amelia knew that watch far too well.
A Patek Philippe “Celestial” model–Ethan Rowe’s most frequently worn piece.
Last night, Eldoria had been hit by a thunderstorm–lightning and roaring thunder.
She’d been alone in this empty villa, gripped by fear, shaking uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, her husband, Ethan, had been gently video–calling Hannah’s daughter, soothing the two of them.
So, that belated call this morning–that fake concern–wasn’t him caring about her at all. It was an afterthought, offered only after he’d finished playing savior for someone else.
Disgusting.
Amelia remembered how pathetic she’d been last night.
If Mason hadn’t come back and dragged her out of the closet, she would’ve stayed in there, falling apart.
And now, looking at Hannah’s post–brimming with showy triumph–Amelia could only feel the bitter irony.
Just like that, any guilt about the absurd fact that she’d slept beside Mason last night vanished.
Just then, her phone buzzed again.
Lily sent a perfect green puking–face sticker–capturing Amelia’s mood exactly.
“I’m gonna throw up. This woman’s got skills–showing off like that without even looking like she’s showing off.”
Amelia took a deep breath, forcing down the churn in her chest, and typed with cold fingers.
“How do you even have her story?”
“Long story. I don’t know what’s up with Hannah lately–she’s suddenly super active, desperately trying to squeeze into the upper circles. One of my fake “friends” added her a couple of days ago, then ran to me this morning to gossip–asking if she’s about to remarry because it looks like something’s going on.”
Lily’s next message followed immediately, loaded with righteous fury for her best friend.
“And I can’t exactly tell her the truth–that this ambitious “tragic widow” is trying to steal my best friend’s husband!”
Reading Lily’s angry messages, Amelia originally wanted to reply, “Ignore her. Let her do whatever.
She was done wasting feelings on Ethan and these women.
Over the years, she’d seen too much–she was exhausted.

But just as her finger hovered over send, something flashed through her mind.
Why let it go?
Why should she always swallow it in silence while others basked in victory?
Amelia’s gaze changed instantly.
The corner of her mouth slowly lifted.
She deleted what she’d typed and wrote something new.
“This is such an ‘interesting‘ moment. It’d be even more fun if my mother–in–law saw it too.”
Lily replied almost instantly.
“!!!”
The string of exclamation marks said everything–shock and excitement.
Next, Lily sent a “I trust you” sticker, followed by a message-
“Got it, babe! You can’t go soft on a trash man and a shameless woman.
“Just wait–perfect timing. That fake ‘friend‘ of mine who added Hannah? Her mom and your high–and- mighty mother–in–law have been besties for decades. They play cards and drink afternoon tea together all
the time–and they live for juicy rich–people gossip.”
