Amelia quickly looked away and placed her wrist on the small pulse cushion by the table.

Kaia soon took an old wooden medical case from a box near the medicine cabinet and sat beside Amelia.

Her fingers rested lightly on Amelia’s pulse. Her expression was calm and focused.

The room grew quiet. Only the occasional birdcall could be heard outside the window.

Amelia looked at the girl, who was about her age. Kaia’s steady focus and calm presence felt far beyond her

age.

Amelia’s unease slowly faded, replaced by growing curiosity.

While Kaia checked her pulse, Amelia finally spoke in a soft voice. “Ms. Preston… Mason told me it’s very hard to get your grandfather to see patients. He hasn’t accepted new patients for years. How did he convince your grandfather?”

Kaia didn’t even blink. Her attention stayed on Amelia’s pulse.

After a while, she withdrew her hand. Once she had a clear sense of Amelia’s condition, she raised her eyes and looked at her calmly.

“Yes.” Kaia nodded and went on, “He bought the entire pre–approved parcel straight from the developer, paying several times the original price.”
