Chapter 252 Possessiveness

After hearing her out, Mason still showed little emotion. He lowered his gaze, his eyes landing on her foot wrapped in plaster. He stayed silent for a moment before speaking again.
“Is it very expensive?”
The question caught Amelia off guard.
Without thinking too much, she followed his train of thought and missed the brief darkness that flashed through his deep eyes.
“Not really,” she answered honestly. “They’re just things Ethan gave me before. I left them in the closet and never really used them…”
She hadn’t even finished her sentence when she felt the air around them turn cold.
Mason lifted his eyes. The calm in them was gone, replaced by a sharp, icy edge.
He looked straight at her and asked slowly, “So because those things were from Ethan, you’re willing to ignore your injury and rush back right now just to get them back?”
Amelia froze for a second. Then she understood what he meant.
“No!” she denied at once. She stepped forward in a rush, forgetting her ankle. Pain shot through her, and she sucked in a sharp breath.
Ethan frowned. He reached out to support her, then stopped halfway.
Amelia ignored the pain. She looked up at him and tried hard to explain what she was really feeling. “It has nothing to do with who gave them to me!
“Even if it were junk I picked up off the street, I wouldn’t be okay with someone taking it without a word! This isn’t about money. It’s about Hannah going too far. I won’t let her feel proud of this!”
Mason pressed his lips together.
Emotions churned in his eyes, so deep she couldn’t read them at all.
In the heavy silence, Mason suddenly moved.
He bent down and, without warning, lifted her into his arms.
“What are you doing?” Amelia was completely stunned. She grabbed his neck on instinct so she wouldn’t fall.

Mason didn’t answer. Holding her firmly, he turned and walked straight back to her bedroom.
He gently placed her on the soft bed, then looked down at her, his tone firm. “You can’t go.”
Amelia was both angry and anxious. “Why not? So my things just go to Hannah for free?”
“Tomorrow…” Mason said. Seeing her cheeks puff up in anger, the cold in his eyes eased a little. “I’ll send people from the insurance company to the Rowe Villa to check your personal items.
“Don’t worry.
I won’t let anyone walk off with your things. And if anything really was taken, I’ll make them pay ten times its market price.”
He simply did not want her to go back there again. Not because of Ethan. Not because of anyone or anything tied to him.
Not even once.
Amelia was taken aback by how calmly he laid everything out. When she thought it through, she had to admit it made far more sense than storming back in a rage.
The fire in her chest slowly died down. She nodded, accepting his plan.
Still, she clearly felt Mason’s possessiveness.
It was strong and overbearing, yet somehow it didn’t annoy her.
Instead, it brought a strange sense of safety.
With Mason taking charge of the matter, Amelia finally felt at ease and stopped worrying about it.
That afternoon, Tim suddenly came by the estate.
He brought her several files on upcoming company projects, along with early ideas for the next season’s clothing designs.
Because of her leg injury, Amelia had delayed her start date at Stardale.
Even so, she had been keeping up with the company’s progress so she wouldn’t be lost once she returned.
During this time, Amanda had already joined the company ahead of her as her assistant.
“Amelia, are you free tomorrow night?” Tim asked eagerly as he sat across from her. “Come with me to a charity auction gala.”

Amelia pointed at her foot, which still couldn’t take full weight, looking a little hesitant.

“I know,” Tim said, waving it off. “I promise you won’t have to do a thing. Just go and watch. The key part is this: at the end of the night, they’re announcing the final lineup of judges for the design competition. I think you should show up.”
After weeks of therapy, her foot could already handle a few slow steps without the cane.
If she didn’t move around too much, a gala event should be fine.
“Don’t worry,” Tim added quickly when he saw her still hesitating. “Even if you go in a wheelchair, I’ll take care of you the whole time. I won’t let you get tired. Besides…” He leaned in, lowered his voice, and winked. “Mason will be there too. With him around, what are you afraid of?”
But Tim didn’t know that the line he meant as reassurance had the opposite effect.
The moment she heard Mason would be there, the small bit of courage Amelia had just built up vanished at once.
