Chapter 253 As Your Date

Amelia didn’t know why, but the moment she imagined showing up with him at such a formal event, under everyone’s eyes, her nerves kicked in. She even felt a little … chicken.
It was like whatever quiet tension and unspoken pull existed between them was about to be dragged into the spotlight for everyone to see.
“Has the company been busy lately?” Amelia asked, still thinking about work. “In a couple of days, I could go in early just to get familiar with things.”
“No rush. I already brought everything you need to review.”
He didn’t stay long at the estate. There was an important meeting that afternoon, so after giving his instructions, he got up to leave.
Before he left, he looked at Amelia and said half–jokingly, “Your ankle comes first. Make sure it’s fully healed before you come back. If you rush in and work yourself too hard, slow down your recovery, and Mr. Everett gets upset, I can’t take that heat. If he ever wanted Stardale gone, it’d be done.”
Amelia’s cheeks warmed. “Stop talking nonsense. Just go already.”
Tim reached the door, then turned back with a thoughtful look. “By the way, do you want me to arrange your dress and styling for tomorrow night?”
Amelia shook her head.
Her role right now was just a judge. Before the final results were out, it wouldn’t be right to draw too much attention.
“No need. I have my own. Just bring Amanda with you. If something comes up, she can help.”
“Alright, no problem.” Tim made an OK sign and finally left.
The living room fell quiet again. Amelia set down the cushion, a hint of regret rising in her chest.
She’d been joking around with Tim and completely forgot the one thing she really wanted to
ask.
She wanted to know if Phoebe truly was nothing more than Mason’s former classmate.
That night, the dining room lights glowed softly.
Only the two of them sat at the long table.

Amelia put
down her knife and fork, took a sip of lemonade, and spoke as if it were casual. “Um … Tim came by this afternoon. He invited me to a charity auction gala tomorrow night.”
Mason didn’t
pause while cutting his steak. He only gave a quiet “Oh” and looked up at her.
His gaze made her a little tense, but she went on. “They’re announcing the final lineup of judges for the design competition. I think I should go.”
“Alright,” Mason said simply, as if he had expected this all along.
“I’ll have someone prepare everything for you.”
The way he said it, calm and final, made her heart skip.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say it wasn’t necessary. But when her eyes met his, the words got stuck. In the end, she could only answer softly, “Oh.”
At the same time, over at the Rowe Villa.
Hannah had just learned about the charity auction gala from Edison’s call.
The moment she heard that Ethan would be there too, her eyes lit up.
This is a gift from heaven!
If she could attend as Ethan’s date, it would be a clear signal to everyone in the industry. Stronger than any words.
She hung up at once and hurried to the study. Ethan was inside, busy with work.
“Ethan.” She walked over, her voice sweet and soft. “I just heard from Edison that you’re going to that charity gala tomorrow night?”
Ethan didn’t even look up. He gave a short reply. “Yeah.”
“Then…” Hannah hesitated on purpose. “Can I go with you? As your date?”
Ethan’s brow tightened just a little,
He finally raised his head from the papers.
“That wouldn’t look good,” he said coldly. “Go by yourself. Or go with Edison.”
The blunt answer hit Hannah like a slap.
Still, she didn’t dare show it on her face. Instead, she forced an even softer, more pitiful smile.

“That’s okay too,” she said, nodding as if she understood. Her eyes quietly reddened. “It’s just… Edison said she might arrive late. And I haven’t gone to an event like this alone in a long time. I might feel a little nervous.”
Then she added softly, “And I heard … people from the Boyds will be there.”
Sure enough, the moment he heard “the Boyds,” Ethan’s expression darkened.
He hadn’t thought of that.
The Rowe Group had put a lot into this design competition. Hannah was the new designer he was openly backing. She represented the company’s image.
If she were embarrassed in public by the Boyds, it wouldn’t just be her problem. The Rowe Group would look bad.
After weighing it over, he finally gave in. His tone was still cool. “I get it. I’ll have you up tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Ethan!” Hannah smiled through her tears at once.
She held back her excitement and left the study.

The moment the door closed behind her, the smile on her face burst free, full of triumph.
She knew it. As long as she stayed gentle and understanding enough, he would always soften in the end.
