Chapter 277 Hidden Card

In that situation–when Mason made his massive bid, and Ethan was destined to become the joke of the night–Hannah’s fainting was like a lifesaver. It gave him a way to leave with his dignity still intact.
She did it to save him.
Ethan looked at her. Her face was flushed, and she was looking away, clearly embarrassed. He swallowed hard and managed to speak. “But what will people think of you? That was so embarrassing.”
For him, she was willing to sacrifice her own reputation in front of everyone.
“It’s fine.” Hannah shook her head lightly and looked up at him, her eyes full of sincerity. “I’m not anyone important. A little embarrassment doesn’t matter. Besides, you’ve been so good to Isla and me. I couldn’t just stand there and watch you get stuck in such an awkward spot.”
Just then, the ambulance seemed to roll over a speed bump, and the vehicle jolted.
“Ah!” Hannah yelped.
She lost her balance, sliding right into Ethan’s arms.
Ethan’s body went stiff.
If this had been before, he would’ve pushed her away without a second thought.
But this time, feeling how much she depended on him and how soft she felt in his arms…
His arms moved slightly. In the end, he didn’t push her away.
The moment Hannah fell into his arms, her heart nearly jumped out of her throat.
It was a rush of emotion–part testing, part wild excitement.
She could feel his body go stiff, and the brief hesitation when he moved his arm.
When his hands finally dropped to his sides instead of pushing her away, Hannah knew she had won her bet.
But she didn’t dare show it on her face.
After a few seconds, she pulled away from Ethan’s arms. Her face flushed as she lowered her head, acting like it had all just been an accident caused by the bump.

Seeing Hannah’s shy, awkward face, the anger and bitterness he’d felt from being completely crushed by Mason somehow eased a lot.
“Well, we don’t need to go to the hospital anymore.” He cleared his throat. He regained his usual calm voice and spoke to the paramedics up front, “Please stop at the next intersection. She’s fine. I’ll take her home myself.”
They got out of the ambulance and switched to his own car parked at the hotel.
They didn’t speak on the way back, but the mood in the car was completely different from before.
By the time they arrived at Rowe Villa, it was almost midnight.
Isla was curled up on the couch in the living room.
Hearing the door open, she jumped down barefoot and ran over, throwing herself into Hannah’s arms. Her voice trembled as she cried, “Mom! Where did you and Ethan go? I waited so long. I thought you didn’t want me anymore.”
Hannah immediately crouched down and hugged her tightly, her voice full of tenderness. “Silly girl, didn’t I tell you? I had a very important event tonight.” As she spoke, she wiped away the tears at the corner of Isla’s eyes. “See? We’re back now.”
Ethan walked over. Looking at them holding each other. The gratitude and guilt he felt toward Hannah that night slowly turned into tenderness and indulgence.
“Easy, Isla. How could we abandon you?”
Isla looked up at him with her tear–stained face. She asked shyly, “Ethan, can you read me a bedtime story? I’m a little scared sleeping alone.”
On a normal day, Ethan might have made an excuse.
But tonight, he didn’t hesitate. He picked her up and said softly, “Of course.”
Watching Ethan carry her daughter toward the bedroom, Hannah slowly stood up. Deep in her eyes, a sharp, confident light flashed.
She knew the moment had come.
Ethan was moved by her sacrifice tonight. His guard toward her and Isla was at its lowest.
This was the perfect chance to completely crush Amelia and make sure she’d never be a problem again.

Instead of following them, Hannah turned around and quietly slipped out into the garden.
It was pitch black outside, with only a few small garden lights glowing.
Hannah stopped in a quiet corner, took out her phone, and smoothly pulled up a photo Edison had sent her before.
In the photo, Amelia was in a garden, hugging a man tightly.
You couldn’t see the man’s face, but Amelia’s profile was crystal clear. There seemed to be tears on her face, and she looked fragile, leaning on him for support.
Hannah had been hiding this photo, waiting for the perfect time to use it.
That time was now.
She took a deep breath and dialed a number.
The call connected. A sleazy voice came through the phone. “Well, well, Ms. Gray. What can I do for you?”
