Chapter 298 Blame Her

“No rush, Amelia said, gently pressing a hand on the agitated Lily. “Let him talk. I want to see exactly what they’ve prepared just to smear me.”
She wanted them to lay all their cards on the table, so she could tear their lies apart one by one.
At that moment, Hannah took the microphone at just the right time.
Her eyes were already red as she faced the cameras, silently choking back tears for several seconds. Her weak, helpless appearance immediately drew countless close–up shots.
“Hello, everyone,” she began, her voice hoarse and trembling with sobs. “All the rumors going around about Ethan and me are completely fake stories made up by Ms. Harlow out of jealousy.”
Her performance had officially begun. “My husband passed away early. Ethan and my late husband were best friends since childhood, and they were always very close. Seeing that my daughter and I were struggling on our own, he couldn’t bear it, so he often reached out to help and take care of us.”
That soft, syrupy speech, paired with her tear–streaked face, was more than enough to stir sympathy in anyone who didn’t know the truth and turn their anger toward the supposedly cruel Amelia.
Amelia watched coldly, her heart filled with icy sarcasm.
This show was even better than she had expected.
Just as Hannah finished her emotional confession, a reporter in the audience immediately caught a flaw in her story and sharply raised his hand.
He was a male reporter wearing black–framed glasses, his tone aggressive and clearly not someone easy to fool.
“Ms. Gray,” he said, rising to his feet with a sharp, unwavering gaze fixed on the stage.. “According to what we know, Mr. Rowe arranged for you to live in the villa he shared with Ms. Harlow. He also personally picked up and dropped off your daughter from school on a regular basis, placed you directly into a core department at Rowe Group, and frequently brought you with him to major business events. Is this what you consider simply helping out? Or does this level of closeness suggest something more?”
The question was razor sharp and practically ripped open the pitiful widow image Hannah had just worked so hard to create.
As Amelia listened to the reporter’s tone, something stirred in her.

This didn’t sound like a mouthpiece paid off by the Rowes. He sounded like a real journalist chasing the truth. Or perhaps he was someone Mason had arranged to ask these exact questions.
Either way, it worked in her favor.
Faced with such a pointed challenge, Hannah’s face went noticeably pale. But she quickly steadied herself, lowered her eyes, and forced out a few tears.
“N–No, that’s not how it was,” she denied hastily, her voice shaking and thick with tears.
She lifted her watery eyes toward the cameras, every tiny expression carefully crafted to look innocent. “My daughter and I were only staying in a room far from the main house, a space that was rarely used and largely isolated. As a woman alone with a child, it really wasn’t safe for us to live elsewhere. Ethan did all of this purely out of kindness. As for attending events…”
She choked back a sob and continued. “I had been out of the workforce for too long. Ethan wanted me to adjust and become independent again, so he took me out to see the world, meet people, and build connections. I only felt gratitude toward him. How could I possibly have any improper thoughts?”
By glossing over key points, she once again cast herself as the helpless one, framing everything as forced by circumstances, while Ethan appeared as a man whose kindness knew no boundaries.
“But even if Ethan and I were completely innocent, Ms. Harlow was always extremely uncomfortable with my daughter and me. At home, she treated me like a servant. I endured all of that. But she even insulted my daughter in front of the staff, calling her a fatherless bastard!” Hannah continued.
The moment those words left her mouth, the room filled with sharp gasps.
Insulting a young child who had lost her father crossed a clear moral line.
Hannah seemed to reach her breaking point, her shoulders shaking violently. “To force us out, she even falsely accused my daughter, who was only a few years old, of pushing her down the stairs. Because of that, my daughter was taken to the police station for questioning at such a young age. She was terrified and suffered from nightmares for days afterward. I really don’t understand how someone’s heart could be so cruel.”
As she spoke, her eyes were filled with restrained suffering.
“At first, I thought Amelia was just too in love with Ethan and afraid I would take his attention away, so she went crazy targeting me. It wasn’t until later that I found out the real betrayal in this marriage came from her. Ethan actually cared about her deeply and gave her countless
chances.”

Hannah raised her voice, as if speaking up for Ethan. “This time, if she hadn’t gone too far and even pushed Mr. Everett to use an important joint project between our companies to threaten Ethan and force him to swallow everything quietly, we never would have stood up like this.”
